A few months ago I was sitting on the beach, sipping a cocktail (no lie) and watching my girls giggle in the sand. Life couldn't get any better. And then my phone beeped and I saw an email from HGTV magazine. What the what?
I am over the moon to be featured in their "WOW! What Color is That?" article. And not only do I get to show off the raspberry dresser I painted for my living room, but I'm thrilled the picture is also showing off some of my favorite work from my dear friend Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda.
It is so good to get one of my little secrets off my chest and share the good news with you all! I didn't think it was coming out until Tuesday, so y'all should have seen me when I spied it at Target on Saturday night (yes, I was at Target on Saturday night). As Ice Cube would say, it was a good day.
So be sure to check it out! Wahoo!!
And to celebrate, I have a special treat. My friend Brittany of Classically B is expanding her amazing pillow collection onto Etsy, and she is offering 15% off her already great prices to all little black door readers. Make sure you are a follower of little black door and you can use the code HAPPY15 at checkout. The offer expires on October 28th so make sure to order up before then! Early Christmas shopping people.
Magazines and pillows. Now that's a good Monday!

a break from celebrations to celebrate
Thought I'd take a quick break from my birthday/4th of July vacation week to share some fun news. My bedroom is featured in CNN's Open House series (along with my friends Emily and Bethany).
Now that is a great way to celebrate a birthday!
Check it out and see a lot of great spaces.
Happy holiday weekend y'all!!

you scare me, but i like you
I started working on ideas for my living room a few weeks ago and I'm having some good times with these fabric and paint ideas. (I'll share my board soon) I've realized though, that I have a color phobia. I'm usually down with all colors, and don't have any particular fear of using any of them...except for one.
Orange.
I've tried to use it a few times - in paint, fabric, accessories - and I almost always chicken out. Its sad. I'm thinking I might need therapy.
This is my sole dip into the orange pool. Chicken.
I really like orange. And I find that I pin it a ton.
Is there a color you are scared to use but always seem drawn to?
Also, before I go, a big THANK YOU to Apartment Therapy for featuring our deck redo this week. Can I get a WAHOO?! (And thanks to Charmaine for sending the link to me)

treats for me
I was treated to two wonderful surprises yesterday.
The always inspiring Naomi at Design Manifest featured one of my images in her post on styling,
and the lovely and creative Vicky at Decor & Harmony featured me on her Coast to Coast Creativity series.
Now all I need is for Brad Pitt to return my phone call and I've got one banner day!
Thanks ladies for putting a smile on my face.

awards and cords
I was hit with the lucky stick twice this week when two of my favorite ladies, Charmaine at My Best Friend Craig and Laura at Elegant Nest gave me the Liebster Blog award! Woot woot!
The Liebster Blog award is given to a blog on the rise. It is a great way to shine a light on those that are making their way in the blog world, and I am truly honored for the privilege.
This is probably as close to a Grammy as I'll ever get, so let me take this opportunity to thank my fans, my family for supporting me and of course God. (why do musicians always thank God in their speeches?) In all seriousness though I have a great respect for Charmaine and Laura and it means a lot that they even thought of me.
With this honor, I get to pass on the love to five of my favorite blogs.
Emily at Lucite and Lavender
Meg at Nutmeg & Company
Erin at Out on a Limb
Now with this award comes great responsibility my friends. Please continue the tradition by doing the following:
1. Link back to the person who gave it to you. Its important to represent!
2. Post the award on your blog for all to see!3. Give the award to 5 of your favorite bloggers (ideally with approximately 200 followers or less).4. Leave a comment on your chosen 5 blogs to let them know that they have been given the Liebster award.
Now for the 'cord' portion of this post - I'm off to a friends house today to sew some piping (cording). You know what that means - yes, the blasted couch is almost done! Here is a sneak peek.
Make sure to check in next week for the big reveal!
