CBS News reports the Pentagon has discovered a gap in the defenses of Washington, D.C., and it's about to test a solution.

But depending on your point of view, the solution is either vital for national security or a threat to American privacy.

Starting this fall, two blimps will float at 10,000 feet over the Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland in an attempt to develop a defense for the nation's capital against cruise missiles fired from ships offshore.

It tells a similar story, complete with detailed instructions for building a giant round vessel known as a coracle — as well as the key instruction that animals should enter “two by two.”

...The flood story recurs in later Mesopotamian writings including the “Epic of Gilgamesh.” These versions lack the technical instructions — cut out, Finkel believes, because they got in the way of the storytelling

...“I’m sure the story of the flood and a boat to rescue life is a Babylonian invention,” he said.

He believes the tale was likely passed on to the Jews during their exile in Babylon in the 6th century BC. And he doesn’t think the tablet provides evidence the ark described in the Bible existed. He said it’s more likely that a devastating real flood made its way into folk memory, and has remained there ever since.

“I don’t think the ark existed — but a lot of people do,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter. The Biblical version is a thing of itself and it has a vitality forever.

The 85 Richest People In The World Have As Much Wealth As The 3.5 Billion Poorest

As the World Economic Forum begins in Davos, Switzerland, Oxfam International has released a new report called, “Working for the Few,” that contains some startling statistics on what it calls the “growing tide of inequality.”
The report states:

Almost half of the world’s wealth is now owned by just one percent of the population.
The wealth of the one percent richest people in the world amounts to $110 trillion. That’s 65 times the total wealth of the bottom half of the world’s population.
The bottom half of the world’s population owns the same as the richest 85 people in the world.
Seven out of ten people live in countries where economic inequality has increased in the last 30 years.
The richest one percent increased their share of income in 24 out of 26 countries for which we have data between 1980 and 2012.
In the US, the wealthiest one percent captured 95 percent of post-financial crisis growth since 2009, while the bottom 90 percent became poorer.

Asserting that some economic inequality is necessary to foster growth, it also warns that extreme levels of wealth concentration “threaten to exclude hundreds of millions of people from realizing the benefits of their talents and hard work.”

SHOCKER Miguel Mejia-Ramos: Killed his own daughters because he didn’t have a car seat

I heard this motive for murder and I was stunned. So I called a friend of mine on the phone and warned him for what I was about to tell him. After I said a guy killed his own daughters because he didn’t have a car seat the phone went dead for 2 minutes. My friend couldn’t process the information. I can’t either!

DNA Info NewYork reports a Jamaica man stabbed his young daughters to death because he didn't have car seats to take them on the lam with him after killing their churchgoing mother, prosecutors said Friday.

When asked by detectives why he killed his children, he said, "I was going to take them with me, but I didn't have car seats," prosecutor Michelle Kaszuba said during Miguel Mejia-Ramos' arraignment Friday in Queens criminal court on a slew of charges, including first-degree murder and weapon possession.

Handcuffed and wearing jeans and a black T-shirt beneath a black hooded sleeveless jacket, Mejia-Ramos, silently stared at the floor in the courtroom, filled with family members and reporters.

"Miguel was like a member of our family. We trusted him," Evelinda Alvardo, Garcia's aunt, said in Spanish before the hearing. She then looked at a photo of Garcia that she had stored in her cellphone and burst into tears.

Mejia-Ramos, 28, first fatally stabbed his wife Deisy Garcia, 21, in a fit of jealous rage before attacking their two daughters Yoselin Mejia, 1, and Daniela Mejia, 2, on Jan. 19 at their Sutphin Boulevard home, according to Queens DA Richard Brown's office.

Lower Moreland High School teacher and mother Erica Ann Ginnetti had sex with 17 yr male student

Once again the reaction of parents and students is shock despite how prevalent this around the country.

ABC News reports a high school teacher in Montgomery County has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Erica Ann Ginnetti, 33, an advanced math teacher at Lower Moreland High School, is charged with 13 counts including Institutional Sexual Assault, Corruption of Minors, and Disseminating Obscene Materials to a Minor.
Students say the rumors have been circulating for a while that Ginnetti, a married mother, had an intimate relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

"The fact that she had kids and she was a teacher and he was student, that's what's shocking," said Patrick Giordano, student.

Police began their investigation ten days ago, after receiving a tip about other students seeing incriminating evidence on the victim's cell phone.

Police say the evidence, including photos, video and text messages, led them to Ginnetti, who admitted to having a relationship with the student starting last Spring.

Investigators say Ginnetti first approached the male student at the school's senior prom last May, asking him if he would come work out at her gym. They say the student responded with a text message a few days later and the two began communicating on a daily basis.
Prosecutors say over the next several months, Ginnetti sent the student sexual text messages and sexually explicit photos and videos of herself, and on one occasion had sex with him.

South Street Elementary School teacher Kaitlin Pearson in Fitchburg suspended after semi-nude modeling shots sent to her boss

Whoever sent those photos was dead wrong. But, I don’t see why she got suspended.

NY Daily News reports a Mass. elementary school teacher has been suspended after saucy shots of her modeling semi-naked were anonymously sent to her bosses.
Kaitlin Pearson, 23, is in hot water after racy images of her donning revealing bikinis and next-to-nothing sportswear were also sent to her local newspaper.

Alongside, a note read: "Can you believe that this girl was hired to work with special education children in the Fitchburg schools?!!"
The 23-year-old - nicknamed Kaity - was temporarily booted, with full pay, from South Street Elementary School in Fitchburg on Friday.

An investigation is now being held as to whether her second job, which includes appearing at sports events in skimpy outfits, affects her ability to work with special education children.

Photos from a teacher’s past usually don’t end well for the teacher

GOTCHA: Arrest made in stabbing of beloved Brother Rice High School teacher Al Filan

Not much details are available for the motive of this crime. If anybody knows the deal drop a comment.

Chicago Tribune reports Orland Park police have made an arrest in the homicide of a longtime Brother Rice High School teacher, the department said in a news release this afternoon.

The suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and was arrested in the early morning hours Friday, the news release said. There were no other details about the arrest, and police did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The investigation is continuing in conjunction with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, the release said.

Al Filan, 61, was found dead on his kitchen floor Tuesday, when police went to his house after Filan didn’t report for work that day. The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Wednesday the cause of Filan’s death was multiple stab and incise wounds.

Neighbors recalled Filan as a private man who rarely interacted with others in the quiet Orland Park neighborhood. Filan taught at Chicago's Brother Rice High School for nearly 40 years and coached soccer at Tinley Park's Victor Andrew High School from 1988 to 2010.

Police tape remained strung across Filan’s front yard this afternoon, though police no long had squad cars on patrol in front of the house.

America has become a dysfunctional nation. Evidence for this thesis is omnipresent. From the space program to our school systems this nation is no longer competitive on the World Stage. Falling from its high perch wasn’t easy. Government entities worked especially hard to downgrade every institution and industry in the country. With a hundred billion dollar space station orbiting the Earth, United States astronauts must hitch a ride with the Russians. Poor planning and reduced appropriations to NASA led to this tragic downgrade. Worse, many of their best scientists may not have jobs for long. Compared to foreign students their American counterparts score multiple levels below them on math and science tests. Diluted curriculums and lack of emphasis on the importance of education have contributed to this downward slide in academics. Traditional morality established by religion and strong family values, has given way to a multi-dimensional culture which has forgotten its foundations. A nation, in order to be a concrete entity, must have the elemental basis to keep itself strong. One of our finest radio show hosts’ Michael Savage noted: “borders, language and culture” are the keys to defining who we are and where we have been. There are those in our government who desire to subvert our culture with ridiculous laws to satisfy a small group of deviants. Our military, one of the finest in the World, has become a social experiment that dishonors the very essence of its reason for existence. Survival of the American experiment depends on a strong military. The Executive Branch’s intrusive incursion into the fundamental fabric of our armed forces has degraded our capacity to defend the nation when called upon to do so. Fundamental changes are needed in the central government to revitalize a country that has been torn from within. Time has come to put America first again and place people in power who think likewise. Americans’ acumen of choosing its political representation has faltered over the last decade. 2014 could reenergize the American dream. Let’s hope sense and sensibility returns to the electorate.
