A Question of Integrity, or the Lesser of Two Evils...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

The second tier of the rEpublican pArty presidential ticket doing a bit of twisting. Given that flip flops and spinning of the facts seem to be increasing in popularity with the rEpublicans begs a question... Is anyone in the conservative camp concerned with integrity any more? This from the Atlantic.

Again, we expect politicians to shade and shape their version of reality. But getting a reputation for doing this, as Ryan is doing during the campaign, is a particular problem for someone who has been set up as a uniquely honorable truth-teller.

Which brings us to Ryan and Norah O'Donnell today on Face the Nation. She presented him with another of the partial-truths from his convention speech, which he has repeated afterward. This is his slam of Obama for cutting defense spending, without mentioning that he has voted for these same cuts. I mention this less for what it shows about Ryan than for what it shows about O'Donnell. Take a look for yourself.

On the merits of what O'Donnell was asking Ryan about, see Think Progress. This is an issue I have followed. Ryan's thinly shaved rationalization here is consistent with the three I mention from his convention speech, in that each involves the deliberate omission of a major, elephant-in-the-room complicating truth. And, before you ask, when Joe Biden, Barack Obama, or other Democrats go as far as Ryan has -- not in presenting their opinions, or political "visions," but offering gross distortions-through-omission of their own records -- they deserve exactly the same treatment. {Read More}

Bedfellows politics and integrity do not make.

Fortunately there is a viable and proven alternative to Romney/Ryan and Obama/Biden. The only question is... Will the American electorate bother to educate themselves. For certain the MSM won't bother to help.

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

While visiting fellow liberty site Left Coast Rebel I found this excellent video and accompanying text. A very big H/T to LCR and thanks for letting me "steal" the material Tim.

By the Left Coast Rebel

"He's not a follower of Ayn Rand; clearly he's been influenced by her..."

More from Yahoo Finance:

"I don't think Ryan even in his political philosophy is as radical as I am or as radical as Ayn Rand would be," says Brook in an interview with The Daily Ticker. "Maybe he is in terms of his long-term vision and is just a practical politician."

Even though Brook says Ryan's plan is "nowhere near" what the economy needs to save it from a "debt disaster" he is quick to defend it against attacks."It brings expenses back to 2008 levels," he says. He's also "shocked" that Ryan's plan has been criticized so severely.

According to Rand, government "doesn't regulate business [and] doesn't redistribute wealth" but what it does do have is "a strong police force, a strong judiciary to arbitrate disputes and a military to protect us from outside invasions," says Brook. "Other than that (government should) leave us to pursue our happiness….leave us alone."

Ayn Rand's Objectivist Ethics - Rational Self Interest...

by:Les Carpenter

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan to be his running mate has the left twisting themselves into knots in the early attempts to misrepresent Paul Ryan's intellect and ability.

Not content to attack Ryan the lefties have determined to attack Ayn Rand as well. Rand is the author and philosopher that Ryan freely admits had a positive impact on his thinking with respect to governance and ethics.

The reason the left has such obsessive fear (that borders on hatred) of Ayn Rand is she stands for individualism over collectivism, a limited and proper role for the federal government, and she vehemently denounced the very statism that the leftist power structure in America has grown to embrace and herald as proper government

Just as the founding fathers of our democratic republic were classical liberals and enlightened thinkers, Ayn Rand embraced, and advocated classical liberalism. Modern liberals (liberal today means collectivist) fear of the strong individual who is self reliant and lives their life by rational self interest is what drives the collectivist left to destroy individuals like Paul Ryan and distort and lie about the philosophy of Ayn Rand. They will stop at nothing, and will stoop to the lowest levels to defeat that which can and should defeat them.

Isn't it time those of us who value individualism, liberty, a non intrusive federal government, a government that takes a non interventionist foreign policy posture, and who desire fiscal sanity to not be afraid nor embarrassed to advocate for the Objectivist philosophy of Ayn Rand? Rational Nation over the coming days will be posting videos and pertinent excerpts from Rand's philosophical writings .

It is indeed more important than ever before to keep the philosophy that advocates for limited government, maximum individual liberties, individualism, and protecting the minority against the tyranny of the majority alive. Defeating the collectivist onslaught that only leads to dependency on the nanny state and thus loss of freedoms must be the goal of everyone that cherishes their liberties...
