Unemployment Rate: What's the Worst That Could Happen?

Chicago Fed's Evans: Unemp Cld Hit 6% Before FOMC Raises Rates

WASHINGTON (MNI) - Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Evans said Thursday he could "easily envision certain circumstances in which the unemployment rate could go below 6% before we moved the fed funds rate up."

As seen in the chart above, I could easily envision circumstances in which the unemployment rate never reaches 6%, not that you'd ever hear that from the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President. At least not publicly.

This is not investment advice.

Titanic Surviving German Made Violin Auctioned Off For $1.6M

Buyer who bid and bought a violin believed to belong to Wallace Hartley, the band leader that went down with the Titanic wants to remain anonymous.

By H. Nelson Goodson
October 19, 2013

Devizes, Wiltshire, England - On Saturday, a RMS Titanic artifact was auctioned off by Henry Aldridge and Son at the English town of Devizes, Wiltshire, for a record $1.6M (more then 1M pounds). The German-made violin believed to belong to second class passenger and band leader, Wallace Hartley, 33, who along with seven other band members played the last songs while the Titanic sank is corroded and can't be played.
The violin has the engraving, "For Wallace on the occasion of our engagement from Maria." His fiancee, Maria Robinson gave the violin to Wallace. Wallace of Colne, Lancs, apparently played the violin as portrayed by James Cameron's movie "Titanic" movie scene where the band leader and his band played the song "Nearer, My God, To Thee" as hundreds of Titanic passengers frantically made their way to the few life boats left. Other passengers including children in panic and screaming jumped into the icy waters to reach almost empty life boats in the water. Many second and third class passengers died in the interior of the ship when their exits were blocked or locked to keep them from escaping and overcrowding the upper first class decks. On April 15, 1912, about 1,715 Titanic passengers perished in the icy waters of hypothermia.
The violin was returned after the Titanic tragedy to Robinson who lived in Briglington, East Yorkshire. It later resurfaced again in 2006, which the violin went numerous tests to authenticate before the auction, according to Henry Aldridge and Son auctioneers company.

2019 or bust!

Future Bright, But A Ways Off

On the positive side, Moody's Economy.com chief economist Mark Zandi strongly believes that the bottom in new-home sales is hitting now, the fourth quarter of 2007.

"It's going to be so bad, that it's going to be hard to be even worse in the first quarter of 2008," Zandi said at the National Association of Home Builders 2007 Fall Construction Forecast Wednesday in Washington.

On the down side, this comes from a guy who bought a house in Vero Beach, Fla., in the last year, thinking that he was buying at or near the bottom of the market. Oops.

"I caught the falling knife," Zandi said of his recent home purchase.

Written Testimony of Mark Zandi

The private economy is on the verge of stronger growth, more jobs and lower unemployment.

That Mark Zandi, what a hoot!

Avila Charged For Sucker Punching La Mafia Lead Singer Outside A Gay Bar

Jared David Avila and Oscar De La Rosa

Avila charged with misdemeanor assault for sucker punching La Mafia lead singer Oscar De La Rosa.

By H. Nelson Goodson
October 19, 2013

Houston, Texas - Jared David Avila, 22, of Rosenberg has been charged with one misdemeanor count for assault with bodily injury for sucker punching Oscar De La Rosa on May 13 outside a Houston suburban Montrose gay night club called the Blur at 710 Pacific. It took police several months to identify Avila and up to four months to arrest him in late September. Avila posted $5,000 bail and was released pending a Harris County Criminal Court hearing.
Avila in May wanted to take a photo with De La Rosa inside the popular gay bar, but De La Rosa felt uncomfortable with Avila and refused. Avila began to make scene inside and was kicked out of the bar.
When De La Rosa and his driver left around 1:30 a.m. from Blur, Avila stepped out from some the bushes and sucker-punched De La Rosa and his driver. De La Rosa was injured with face lacerations, an injured right eye and lost two front teeth. De La Rosa was hospitalized and had to cancel a concert tour with La Mafia group for several months until he recovered. His driver suffered minor injuries.

Rogue Bakersfield ICE Office Accused Of Illegal Arrests In Kern County Court House

Bakersfield office ICE agents allegedly arrested undocumented immigrants at the Kern County courthouses who were attempting to pay fines, at court hearings or getting married.

By H. Nelson Goodson
October 18, 2013

Bakersfield, CA - On Thursday, the ACLU of California and the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project sent a letter to John Sandweg, the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) accusing the Bakersfield ICE office of conducting illegal detentions of suspected undocumented immigrants at Kern County courthouses while attempting to pay fines, appearing at court hearings or getting married. The ACLU cites three occasions of illegal arrests in the last several years. On September 24, 2013, Hector Esquivel Chavez was taken into custody after waiting in line to pay a fine for driving without a license. ICE agents took him into custody as his 2-year-old daughther watched. Chavez and others in line were asked to come into a court room, if they didn't speak English and needed a Spanish translator. Once they went into a courtroom, they were read their rights and taken into custody by ICE.
Another case cited by the ACLU occurred in January 31, 2013, when Sergio Villatoro was at the Kern County courthouse in Lamont, CA when multiple ICE agents entered the area and detained all those people who looked Hispanic. Villatoro noticed that an ICE agent had a photo of a man they were looking for, but the ICE agents blocked all the exists and arrested everyone that was Hispanic. ICE told those that were arrested that they were in custody because they were in the country illegally.
ACLU claims, that Villatoro was not a target or ICE could have not known he was undocumented because ICE agents never presented a warrant for Villatoro and the others detained for being undocumented.
The other case happened on September 12, 2012, when Gurvinder Singh and Kuldeet Kaur, both nationals of India were about to get married at a Kern County courthouse division. Singh was questioned by several ICE agents about his legal status, after Singh explained he came through Mexico, he was arrested. He was later released after ICE discovered that for the last two years he was in deportation proceedings. Singh was placed on electronic monitoring by ICE.
ACLU claims that the Bakersfield ICE agents weren't aware of Singh's proceedings and didn't have a warrant to arrest him at the time. Singh and Kaur were able to get married on November 14, 2012, with the help of their attorney.
ACLU also claims that Bakersfield ICE agents allegedly violated the First and Fifth Amendment rights to access to courts for those arrested in the last several years. The ICE arrests have been documented in Kern County, but ICE agents have also arrested suspected undocumented immigrants at Santa Clara, California courts as well, according to the ACLU.
The arrests of suspected undocumented immigrants at courthouses has kept people from seeking restraining orders, paying their traffic fines and from other legal proceedings for fear of being taken into custody by ICE while at the courthouse.
The ACLU requested Sandweg to investigate the alleged illegal arrests by ICE agents in both Kern County and in Santa Clara.
ICE released a statement that they are only arresting those suspected undocumented immigrants that are deemed a threat to the U.S. It seems Sandweg has a rogue Bakersfield ICE office that is engaging in illegal arrests, despite federal laws preventing such detentions.

Rational Nation USA
Liberty -vs- Tyranny

As America continues its struggle to figure out just how to marry capitalism and the ever present social concerns of a modern advanced society I personally just sit back and chuckle.

The recent national melodrama, driven by the continuing debate over politically opposing views on the ACA (ObamaCare) as well as how to control the spiraling national debt highlights the above point nicely. And, it makes me chuckle all the more.

As I listened to the video I realized, more than ever, the proponents of the opposing political view(s) will never find that place were reason can ultimately result in effective, productive, and long term lasting results benefiting the individuals of this nation. This is largely because they willfully fail to recognize what is really in their rational self interest. I say this to the ideologically driven politicians and the elected officials of both parties that are only too willing to trade in dishonesty and eager to profit from their own position of influence and power.

Businesses that take advantage of, and wallow at the trough of government subsidies and are ready to accept money (taxpayer money) and other favors to keep their failing asses afloat are in the same boat as the politicians that manipulate us as they run the federal government..

The pope, a bishop, and the scandal of wealth The Bling Bishop called to Vatican meeting

The pope, a bishop, and the scandal of wealth The Bling Bishop called to Vatican meeting

The controversy surrounding the “Bling Bishop,” Franz-Peter Tebartz van Elst, has become a test case for how Pope Francis intends to handle scandal—not the scandal of sexual impropriety, but the scandal of wealth.

We’re used to bishops being summoned to the Vatican to defend their orthodoxy or to be reminded of their vows of obedience.
But we’re not used to bishops being summoned to Rome to defend their financial management and to be reminded of their vows of humility.
Pope Francis wants a poorer, humbler church.
Evidently he means to enforce it.
The controversy surrounding the “Bling Bishop,” Franz-Peter Tebartz van Elst, has become a test case for how Pope Francis intends to handle scandal—not the scandal of sexual impropriety, but the scandal of wealth.
Bishop Tebartz van Elst has reportedly spent millions of Euros on his residence in the German city of Limburg.  The bathroom itself reportedly cost €15,000.  As if this weren’t enough, Bishop Tebartz van Elst is being accused of twice lying under oath.  Evidently, the good bishop flew business class to India for a social development project but denied it and sued the newspaper Der Spiegel when it published a tell-all-account. Petitions were circulated demanding his resignation—all the while the bishop has pleaded innocence: “people who know me know that I do not need a pompous lifestyle.”
Now he’s going to the Vatican to explain himself further.
It was unclear whether Bishop Tebartz van Elst was actually summoned or he went of his own accord. Reports, however, did make it clear that he traveled by a “budget airline.”  He will meet with the head the Catholic Bishops Conference of Germany
No meeting with Pope Francis is scheduled.  But the pontiff will most certainly make his presence felt.
Unlike Benedict XVI or John Paul II, who reserved their heaviest criticism for modern secularism, Pope Francis has condemned global capitalism in the strongest terms—particularly how its temptations hollow out the Catholic church from within. Pope Francis has condemned the slave wages paid in the garment industry and he has also condemned priests driving new cars.  While one example might seem serious and the other trite, they are both linked in the pope’s religious vision:  while human beings are deprived of their basic economic rights, it is not just unseemly for priests to live in luxury—it is a scandal.
The traditional Catholic definition of scandal is severe and uncompromising:  scandal is an innately evil act that leads others to sin. In this case, it would seem that the issue is not just luxury as selfish appropriation and misuse of material goods, but also the message that it appears to send:  the joy of the priesthood is the pomp and authority of the office.
This particular kind of scandal is one that is found throughout the Catholic world.
I am presently living and teaching in Sri Lanka, a country with a significant and quite influential Catholic minority. Here Pope Francis is seen as liberator. But he is not seen as a liberator in a conventional socio-political sense.  He’s not called “Pope Fidel” or “The Successor of Che.”
Instead, Francis is seen as a pope who is seeking to liberate Catholicism from its own pretensions.
Among Catholic laity and seminarians I have met, the watchword now is “humility”—it is the standard by which the clergy and hierarchy are judged.  In my experience in South Asia, there are more than a few bishops who lead ostentatious lifestyles that would surely provoke the envy their brother bishops, like Tebartz van Elst, who themselves are ensconced in the comforts of what we like to call the “first world.”
How Pope Francis deals with Bishop Tebartz van Elst will tell us much about how this still new pontiff will shape the Catholic hierarchy of the future.  I do not think Pope Francis will be enforcing humility and poverty among bishops by applying particular forms of ecclesiastic sanction like forced resignation.  Instead, this pope seeks to lead with gentleness and mercy–and by example.
But balancing discipline and mercy is a difficult task.  And this pope likes simplicity. So maybe one Christian way of dealing with the scandal of wealth is through an ethic of sharing. In this case, Bishop Tebartz van Elst might open his palatial residence to the public—not just to the homeless, but to any one who needs a bathroom break.

Obamacare: A Prescription for Disaster

Obamacare: A Prescription for disaster

October first 2013 will be remembered as the day Obamacare initiated a process to dismantle America’s health system. Earlier this year Americans were hammered with a dozen new taxes to bring this monster to fruition.  With the implementation of insurance exchanges medical services moved into the dark shadows of government bureaucracy. Failure is the most appropriate way to describe the initial two weeks of this electronic venture to cull unsuspecting people to purchase high priced insurance programs. Reportedly, one must provide information in minute detail, from your prior health history to one’s criminal past. Obamacare allows the U.S. government to mine each individual for data far beyond the needs required to create a health profile. How this information will be utilized is the subject of thousands of comments strewn across  social websites. Yet the media has only grazed this subject. Who needs a Fourth Amendment when we have an Administration that believes the Constitution stands in the away of governing.  Obamacare economics were intended to diminish costs to patients, instead insurance fees moved exponentially higher. Most important, every service embedded in this health legislation, will be apportioned using twisted algorithms to effectuate this oncoming disaster. Instant access to medical services will be a fine memory as this nation moves into its new mode of health care delivery.  A waiting game will emerge where weeks and months will go by when these services were once available in mere hours or days. With a tidal wave of new recipients flowing forth, the health system will need an array of new workers. Ezekial Emanuel MD, Ph.D, one of the architects of this mess, stated in a recent interview that secondary and tertiary health workers will be relied heavily upon to effectuate Obamacare. He believes doctors are no longer needed for minor infirmities such as colds and urinary tract infections. His PH.D is in political philosophy. This author is not sure which one. In essence Obamacare is a hodge-podge of regulatory structure cobbled together to mend a health system that needed a tune up not an overhaul. Its authors were mainly theorists and lawyers.  Failure is written all over this tragedy. Unfortunately President Obama wants to see his tragedy evolve and the resulting number of people who will be hurt under its auspices. As Obamacare implodes, it will defund itself because the economic formula on which it is based is fundamentally flawed. Theory is never as good as practicality. Obamacare is impractical and will hurt a nation already hurting. This nightmare will be over when rational minds prevail in the heart of the nation.  Mark Davis MD, author of the forthcoming book, Obamacare: Dead on Arrival, A Prescription for Disaster.  Available on Amazon, Kindle and soon other venues. platomd@gmail.com, www.healthnetsreviewservices.com.

Protesters Blocked An ICE Deportee Bus In San Francisco

Police removed the protesters from blocking an ICE deportee bus, no arrests were made for Thursday's afternoon two hour stalemate.

By H. Nelson Goodson
October 18, 2013

San Francisco, CA - Police confirmed that an estimated 100 immigrant rights activists and protesters managed to block an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportee bus from moving and transporting an undermine amount of undocumented immigrants. About 20 protesters sat in front of the bus and held hands and another group sat in the back-end of the bus to keep it from moving.
Police were called to the scene at the intersection of Washington Street and Sansome Streets where traffic was brought to a halt. After several hours,  police managed to remove the peaceful protesters without making any arrests. The organizers say, Thursday's action was to send President Obama a message, for him to issue an executive order to stop deportations immediately and the separation of families.
It was the first time that an ICE deportee bus was blocked in the city and protesters vowed to continue to block other ICE buses in coming weeks.
On October 11, ten Not1More protesters in Tucson, Arizona were taken into custody after chaining themselves into the rims of Operation Streamline Court ICE buses, a federal court entrance fence and blocking several ICE buses. The bus were transporting between 80 to 100 undocumented immigrants to the Streamline  Court where an immigration judge convicts all of them in a group for being in the country illegally and sentences them from 30 to 130 days to private prisons before they are actually removed from the U.S.
Not1More activists say, the court convictions and sentences are illegal, which violates each person their individual rights to appeal, due process, contacting the Mexican Consulate and to seek legal advice from family members or attorneys.
The U.S. House GOP vowed not to pass an Immigration reform bill this year and their defeat to stall Obamacare for several years by shuting down the government for 16 days failed. The House GOP will no doubt make sure Obama won't  get to sign an immigration reform bill this year, according to GOP sources.

fess up friday - abby m interiors

I see that smile on your face. I've got one too - it's Friday after all! But I'm also smiling because the lovely Abby from Abby M Interiors is here for Fess Up Friday!

Abby is one of the first people I started to follow on Instagram and I've been stalking following her ever since. Girlfriend can put together a glam dining room or a lakeside cabin like no other and I want each and every space she touches. But enough gushing, Abby the floor is yours...

Hi all!  I'm Abby M. and I'm so excited to be visiting Elizabeth's blog.  She's like my style sister--when I see the rooms she designs, I can't believe how much I love them.  I mean did you see the stripes she painted on her floor this week?!  Genius.

It's confession time.  Let's talk about this little piece below that's supposed to serve as a laundry basket.

This is my must-have item for entertaining.  Why?  Because right before someone comes over to our house, you can bet I'm running around with a laundry basket throwing random items in there that need to be put away.  I want to answer the door all breezy and casual, but rest assured, I've practically run a marathon right before you arrived, throwing anything I can in this laundry basket to be dealt with later.

There you have it!  And if it's ok with Elizabeth, I'll make one more confession--I don't like beige.  Like ever. I want to love all colors but when it comes to beige and brown, it's just not my favorite.  I don't think "beige is a safe color."

Thanks for having me Elizabeth!  I hope I'm not the only one running around with a laundry basket. :-)

You are not the only one Abby. At least you have a basket, I just kind of throw everything into our walk in closet. And I'm sure you can guess how I feel about beige. :) Thanks for sharing!

Do you have to do a cleaning sprint before company? Ever answer the door in a sweat because of last minute prep? Who wants to take bets that Martha Stewart has a 'quick cleanup' basket?

16-day National Economic Shutdown To Influence U.S. House GOP To Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill

Take action, spread the word and repost: The U.S. Congress lifted the $16.7T debt ceiling after a 16 day government shutdown, now comes La Raza with its power to engage in a historical national massive economic shutdown in response to the U.S. House GOP failure to approve a just immigration reform bill. As Hispanics or Latinos, we have long been ignored by the House GOP, its time to stop shopping and overly spending for the next 16 days to flex our economic influence and power to finally push for the passage of a comprehensive immigration reform bill. The time is ripe and right to act! Join me in this human rights struggle Raza!, "... "Nuestro dinero compra y pocos se hacen ricos con nuestra labor barata, pero en acción unida de no compras y gastar poco nos da el poder economico de hacer el cambio para mejorar nuestras oportunidades y crear el camino para un mejor futuro para nuestros hijos/as con el esfuerso de nuestro sudor y valentia de luchar para nuestra justicia y al paso a la reforma para nuestra gente."  H. Nelson Goodson supports and approves this action and economic shutdown.

Disagree with Obama? You're a Racist! ... J. D. Longstreet

Disagree with Obama? You're a Racist! ... J. D. Longstreet
Disagree with Obama?  You're a Racist!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

****************

One of the things I most dreaded about Obama's election the first time, in 2008, was the certain claims of racism that would surely follow in the years ahead every time someone had the temerity to disagree with his position, his philosophy, his ideology, hell, even the color of his tie!   That dread has turned out to be more than prescient.

Over the past five years accusations of racism have been tossed about like bread crumbs to pigeons.  It's ridiculous.

You know, a great number of those people tossing around accusations of racism have never really seen or experienced racism.  Oh, they THINK they have due quite often to the geography of their birth.  But believe me, until you have lived it, breathed it, tasted it, wrestled with it in society and within yourself, you don't know racism.

Mostly, the false cries of racism are flat-out cynicism.  They disagree with the motives of those who hold differing opinions,  so they refer to them as the lowest kind of human there is -- a racist.  Most of the time it's just a cheap shot at the opposition.

Look.  I disagree with the President -- vehemently.  I despise his socialist ideology.  I could not care less about the color of his skin.

I disagreed with Jimmy Carter every bit as much as I do Obama.  I never felt that Carter was anything other than a guilt-ridden democrat.  I disagreed with Bill Clinton.  I never thought Clinton was a socialist or Marxist.  Bill, was, well, a con man, a fraud.  He was and, in my assessment, remains all for Bill and self gratification.   Bill's wife, on the other hand, ranks right up there with Obama in my estimation.  The segue from the Obama administration to an H. R. Clinton administration will be so smooth we will hardly even notice the occupant of the Oval Office has changed.

Take a look at an article at The Daily Caller entitled:  "Redford: ‘Racism involved’ in the ‘paralyzed environment’ Obama faces."  You will find it here:   http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/16/redford-racism-involved-in-the-paralyzed-environment-obama-faces/#ixzz2hvJtPrTq

In the article  Robert Redford (the actor) in an interview on CNN is quoted as having said:  " ...  There’s a body of congressional people that want to paralyze the system. I think that what’s underneath it, unfortunately, is there is probably some racism involved, which is really awful.”

According to the Daily Caller article Redford continued in the CNN interview:  "When asked if Obama’s troubles stem from the fact that he doesn’t “look like the norm,” Redford agreed.

“Doesn’t look like the norm in their mind,” he replied. “But I think just the idea of giving credit to this president — giving him credit for anything is abhorrent to them, so they’ll go against it. Never mind the better good of the people. Never mind that they’re supposed to be in office representing the interest of the public. They’re representing their own self-interest, which are very narrow and in some cases just bigoted.”  Read the entire article here: http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/16/redford-racism-involved-in-the-paralyzed-environment-obama-faces/#ixzz2hvLRoyov

In an article at Hot Air.com, Chris Matthews is quoted as having said:  "They can’t stand the idea that he’s president, and a piece of it is racism. Not that somebody in one racial group doesn’t like somebody in another racial group, so what? It’s the sense that the white race must rule, that’s what racism is, and they can’t stand the idea that a man who’s not white is president. That is real, that sense of racial superiority and rule is in the hearts of some people in this country." -- Chris Matthews  SOURCE:  http://hotair.com/archives/2013/05/15/chris-matthews-white-supremacy-is-a-pretty-big-part-of-all-of-this-opposition-to-obama/

Even guilt-ridden former President Jimmy Carter is quoted in an article at Town Hall.com as having said:  "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American." -- Jimmy Carter -- SOURCE:  http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2013/08/27/15-moronic-things-liberals-call-racism-since-obama-was-elected-n1674131/page/full

It would seem now that the left has used up their "Blame Bush" quota, they have fallen back on racism as the excuse of the moment for Obama's failure as a President.

Look.  I don't think the color of Obama's skin has anything to do with his failure as President.  It's because he is a Socialist/Marxist President in a nation where at least half of the population still values their freedom and liberty.

A Default Averted For Now As The Can Is Kicked Down the Road... Call Me A Skeptic Awaiting Feb. 7th 2014

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Questions: Do you trust this man? Do you think this issue is resolved? Is it just me or has the Tea Party left reason for the realm of wishful dreams?

Then there is the following from FDL ... "It would seem that Senator Cruz should be in a more sour mood given that his plan to stop Obamacare is set to be thwarted. Things really seem to be going poorly for Cruz as the Houston Chronicle, one of his home state’s most prominent papers, took back its endorsement of him."

Houston Chronicle - "When we endorsed Ted Cruz in last November’s general election, we did so with many reservations and at least one specific recommendation – that he follow Hutchison’s example in his conduct as a senator.

Obviously, he has not done so. Cruz has been part of the problem."

And this.

"In three week period following Cruz’s speech — even as GOP’s national approval ratings plummeted — conservatives frantically built their fundraising lists and campaign coffers. In the last quarter, Cruz’s political action committee raised in $797,000, nearly twice what it pulled in the quarter prior, and Heritage Action — which has pressured conservatives to vote against any bill that does not undermine Obamcare — collected $330,000."

And finally, again from FDL, this truth. "So while the country got taken for a bumpy ride and the Republican brand collapsed in national polls – Ted Cruz smashed fundraising goals and posed for the cameras to raise his national profile. A party of one?

No wonder Cruz’s Republican colleagues hate him. His tactics have benefited no one but himself."

Of course there still remains some Senate Republicans trying to at least retain some sense of reason and rational thinking.

One thing of which we can all be sure. Neither the ugly intra-party republican battle or another partisan battle is yet over. The battle(s) just finished is unlikely to deter the next onslaught by the loonies who believe in their mission to change America back to 1776, 1787, or 1860. The nation has not heard the last of Cruz, Gohmert, Palin, Bachmann, Lee, and legions of complete and utter Malcontents who support them. Via: Reason

Customs caught a man hiding 25 parrot eggs in his underwear

Customs caught a man hiding 25 parrot eggs in his underwear

Swiss customs caught a man hiding 25 parrot eggs in his underwear, leading them to uncover a smuggling operation of rare bird eggs worth 65,000 Swiss francs ($71,800).
Having just arrived from Sao Paulo, the man caught the attention of officials with his awkward gait and was apprehended, Beat Eugster of the Zurich customs office said.
“He was wearing very wide trousers, and because he was walking so strangely the agents decided to stop him,” Eugster said by telephone today. “The agents thought he might have been carrying drugs.”

Governor Walker Wants A Mexican Consulate Office In Wisconsin

Governor Scott Walker

Walker has requested for Mexico to open a Mexican Consulate office in the state.

October 17, 2013

Madison, WI - On Monday, Governor Scott Walker (R) announced that he has requested for Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto to open a Mexican Consulate office in the state to serve Mexican nationals in Wisconsin. He also sent a letter to Eduardo Medina-Mora, Mexico's Ambassador to the U.S. requesting a Consulate office in the state.
Walker cites the economic influence Hispanics have in the state and the projected growth in the near future. "Mexico is Wisconsin's second largest export market. Hispanic-owned businesses in Wisconsin are growing at a rate of 7.6 percent, accounting for $2.4 billion in sales and employing 11,000 people. A consulate office in Wisconsin would help continue the pattern of economic growth," Governor Walker's press release stated.
"The Hispanic community in Wisconsin has grown rapidly in recent years," Governor Walker said. "The Mexican Consulate office serving Wisconsin is located in Chicago, and it also serves Illinois and Indiana.  While a mobile consulate is also available, there is a backlog, and Mexican nationals seeking documents in Wisconsin must wait two months or more."
The U.S. Census reports that 355,468 Hispanics reside in the state or 6.2 percent of the total population in 2012.
In Milwaukee County alone, about 13.9 of the County population is Hispanic. Although Governor Walker doesn't estimate the projected total of Mexican nationals or undocumented immigrants residing in the state, he is advocating for better services to be provided to Mexican nationals.
Walker's request for a Mexican Consulate in Wisconsin is a surprise to the state's Hispanic population as much as it is to the undocumented immigrant population residing in Wisconsin. If Governor Walker is really concern about the economic growth and contributions that the Mexican population residing in the state provide, then he could actually advocate for issuing state driver's licenses, which Governor Jim Doyle (D) took away from the undocumented immigrant population. Walker can also allow in-state tuition for Mexican nationals graduating from local high schools and working to enroll in state universities and colleges.
It seems Governor Walker is just attempting to gain support and votes from the Mexican-American community by advocating for a Mexican Consulate in the state. But endorsing Wisconsin driver's licenses and in-state tuition for Mexican nationals could actually swing votes for Walker, if he is genuine in recognizing the rapid economic growth of the Hispanic population in the state.

The future's so bright I gotta wear rose-colored trend channels.

In all seriousness, I believe with every fiber of my being that we will someday return to the red trend channel. The Great Recession got us there last time. I wonder what we'll call the next one.

Time To Stop The Madness With A Third Party? ... J. D. Longstreet

Time To Stop The Madness With A Third Party? ... J. D. Longstreet
Time To Stop The Madness With A Third Party?
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

**************

Those who follow the nation's politics understand that the creation of a viable and effective third political party in the US is the LAST thing Washington wants.  The dems and repubs will fight a third party with all the power, energy, zeal, vehemence, vigor, cunning, and skulduggery they can manage -- and then some.

Look.  Our political system was designed for multiple political parties ... not just two parties such as we have today.

Having only two parties is extremely risky.  Over the years we have seen the two parties switch positions and recently we have watched as the Republican Party, supposedly the home of those of the conservative persuasion, adopt the liberal and progressive positions of the Democratic Party on a scale that has rendered the GOP as something of a pale reflection of the party that has been the traditional home of Socialists, Marxists, and Progressives-- the Democratic Party.

What that means to Americans is simply this: We actually have two branches of the same party trying to govern in Washington today ... the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party LITE. The GOP (the Republican Party) exists in name only.

Creation of another political party, as a third political party, is something of a misnomer.  In fact, it would be the creation of a SECOND political party as we currently have only one political party -- with two branches -- in authority in the Congress today.

I mentioned at the beginning of this piece that our Founding Fathers actually meant us to have multiple political parties and not just the two we have come to think were bequeathed to us by The Founders.

President John Adams, one of the most intelligent presidents this country has had the good fortune to have, said this:

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."

George Washington, the first President under the constitution,  agreed.  Washington said this in his farewell presidential speech:

"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind, (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight,) the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion, that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the Government, and serve to keep alive the spirit of Liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in Governments of a Monarchical cast, Patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in Governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And, there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be, by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume."

I have come to believe that the current two-party system in America is -- UNAMERICAN.  Here's why I say that:

Above I mentioned the two parties had merged their  ideologies effectively blurring the lines between them.  But what troubles me even more is the feeling I get that, between them, the two parties have created a "ruling class" in America and THAT is absolutely un-American.

I fear I would not be welcome in any political party these days.  See, I don't like compromise... period.  Compromise is NOT honesty -- therefore compromise cannot be a virtue.  If one believes one's political philosophy, one's core belief,  is correct, then why compromise? Why LIE?  Seems to me that if a man truly believes that WHAT he believes IS THE TRUTH,  he will hold fast and not budge one iota from that position -- for any reason.  That used to be referred to as "having the courage of one's conviction."  Sadly, few, these days, have such conviction -- or courage.

We have become so used to compromise -- going along to get along, group think, being good little socialists -- that when a person who has the courage to stake out a position and refuse to give it up to those who disagree and stands pat and defends his position against all comers, he is pilloried, said to be a mental case, cursed, metaphorically spat upon, and made an outcast of our hypocritical society.

I must tell you, there is something dead and rotting at the core of any society that treats a courageous citizen in that manner.   Look. I may not agree with that person's conviction, but I admire his courage, his honesty.

In the meantime, get used to the mess we have in Congress today.  It WILL get worse.

There is no constitutional answer to this particular problem.  We can't recall them and we can't dissolve the Congress and hold national elections and send a new crop to DC.  (Would that we could!) We can only lawfully do it -- a handful of seats at a time in both houses -- every two years.

The title to this piece was posed in the form of a question.  My answer to the question is:  "I don't know."  Believe me, that is not meant as some sort of cop-out.  I REALLY don't know.  I cannot escape the feeling that there is something basically, fundamentally, WRONG with the government today.  Not JUST the government, but society, as well.

Like so many Americans today, I am frustrated to the nth degree.  No matter our protestations, the government isn't listening, therefore nothing is resolved -- no matter how hard we try to get our message through to them and acted upon.  It is as though we are racing in a circle, at an ever increasing speed, in an ever decreasing circle.  Only disaster awaits us.

I fear the old constitution-based America is in a death spiral from which it will not, nay, cannot, escape or recover.

History tells us that when a democracy crashes and burns it is followed by a dictatorship -- every time.  Already, we see evidence of the encroachment of a dictatorship in America today as many of us are convinced we have already entered the "police state" stage of devolvement.

If my assessment proves correct, then another political party won't make much difference now, will it?

Three Wisconsin McDonald's Franchises Used By Owner In Drug Operation

Edward Patterson, Kevin Breitzman and Paul Markiewicz

Feds busted a McDonald's restaurant front to fund a marijuana distribution and operation at three Wisconsin locations.

October 16, 2013

Whitefish Bay, WI - On Wednesday, Federal agents from the DEA and multiple law enforcement agencies raided the Whitefish Bay home of Edward G. Patterson, 38, owner of three McDonald's restaurant franchises after a federal indictment alleged that the fast burger businesses were used as a front to fund a marijuana distribution operation. The McDonald's restaurants owned by Patterson are located at 11250 N. Port Washington Rd. in Mequon, 8739 N. Port Washington Rd. in Fox Point and 5344 N. Port Washington Rd. in Glendale were used by Patterson to conspire with other five suspects to launder money from drug sales and to hide proceeds generated from the operation.
Patterson deposited three $12,000 checks into his McDonald's bank accounts. Fifteenth warrants were executed on Wednesday by the feds.
The suspects including Patterson were charged with conspiracy to distribute large amounts of marijuana or a controlled substance and the use of a mail facility to facilitate possession and intent to distribute a controlled substance. If convicted, each suspect is facing up to 40 years in a federal prison.
Feds confiscated 2 pounds of high grade marijuana, 11 weapons and $90,000 in cash, according to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration office (DEA) in Chicago. The investigation into Patterson's drug dealing began last year, according to the DEA.
The five other suspects were identified as Kevin Breiztman, 29, of Glendale; Paul Markiewicz, 27, of Germantown; Andrea Marquardt, 29, of New Berlin; John Webler, 39, of Milwaukee and Paul Heiniger, 42, of Willits, California.
All the suspects in Wisconsin were taken into custody early Wednesday except Heiniger from California who is still at large, according to the feds.
