Mob of Cleveland African American teens film themselves attacking and robbing disabled vet Matthew Robinson while shouting 'Knock that white boy out!'

The people of the city of Cleveland should be ashamed for not coming to this man’s aid while he was being attacked by these hoodlums!
Daily Mailreports three teenagers accused of beating and robbing a disabled Army veteran on an Ohio bus while shouting racial slurs have been arrested.
Police apprehended Kenneth Matthews, Ronald Reid Williams and an unnamed 16-year-old girl who allegedly filmed last Friday's daytime attack on her cellphone, as they tried to flee.

The trio were among up to eight teenagers who allegedly mobbed Matthew Robinson on the RTA Healthline in Cleveland.

When the college student got off the bus near 6th Street and Euclid Avenue, the group allegedly followed him before stealing his belongings while yelling, 'Knock that white boy out!' Bystanders in the Public Square refused to help him.

Racine, WI - On Sunday, February 16, multiple Tejano style groups will unite to perform a live music session in memory and in celebration of the life of Alfredo "Freddy" Fuentes from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Club, 1244 Washington Ave. in Racine, WI. No cover!
On February 6, Alfredo "Freddy" Fuentes, 58, passed away peacefully at his residence. His death is being mourned by many Tejano style groups in Wisconsin and Texas. Fuentes was a bass guitarist and managed to play with most Tejano style groups for more than 45 years in the state. He also liked to play Rock n Roll and Blues rhythms.
He retired after working 30 years at the Chrysler Corporation in Kenosha. Numerous Tejano artists remembered Fuentes as an accomplished musician. Victoria de la Cruz, the lead singer for Victoria y La Onda Tejana posted on  Facebook (FB) that Fuentes was able to perform his last gig with her band and that he will be greatly missed. Fuentes, who is orginally from Laredo, Texas through the years managed to become one of the most popular guitar players in the Midwest.
Ruben Zertuche, a popular lead singer and guitarist who performed with La Orquesta Sancho, Ambiente Tejano, Realidad and other bands posted in FB, "Gonna miss my Compadre! Just talk to him on Wednesday night! We were making plans for him to come visit his mom in Laredo..then come stay with me for a weekend.. we had plans to go see Chevo Hernández in Cotulla...we had so much fun growing up together! Jamming outside at Chevo's house at the rancho I am so sad!..so many memories! R.I.P. Compadre Freddy!..love you!"
Zertuche says, that in 1977,  Fuentes and La Orquesta Sancho recorded their first song in Chicago.
Another local popular Tejano artist, Johnny Hernández, a bass guitarist and singer posted on FB, that he was devastated about news that one of his early childhood school friends had died.
Joe Sosa, another well known Tejano style singer who is now retired and living in San Antonio says, Fuentes played with his group and others for many years and is saddened to hear of his untimely passing.
Fuentes along with Hernández, Zertuche, Sosa, Victoria and other countless Tejano style musicians have been instrumental in keeping the music alive in Wisconsin for decades.
Freddy's wife, Dolores Fuentes, 42, passed away on February 20, 2012. She married Freddy on August 20, 1988 and had two children. They are survived by Jose (Melisa) Torrez and Ezperanza Fuentes, including seven grandchildren and extended family.

Pent-Up Layoff Surprise Demand

The following chart shows nonfarm payrolls divided by initial claims. I'm using quarterly averages to smooth things out a bit (1967:Q1 to 2013:Q4). In my opinion, the higher the ratio, the higher the potential for layoff surprises.

The 3rd order polynomial trend channel in red uses the red data points.

The 3rd order polynomial trend in blue uses all the data points.

I would be among the last to argue that a 3rd order polynomial can accurately predict the future. It can't, especially over the long-term. That said, damn. It's an ugly chart. We all better hope there is absolutely no truth buried within it. Unfortunately, as a permabear since 2004, I do believe there is some truth buried within it (or I would not have made the chart). How much truth remains to be seen.

In any event, I would once again point out that this is not 1982. We are not at the very bottom of the long-term channel with favorable long-term tailwinds. Instead, we are at the top of the channel with winds of a potentially different nature. Sigh.

Is it really any wonder that we're still trapped in ZIRP?

De Blasio defends circumventing the law to release jailed pastor

De Blasio defends circumventing the law to release jailed pastor

De Blasio also said he might well do it again, saying such decisions would be “made on a case-by-case basis.”

“This is an unusual situation where a very prominent member of the clergy obviously was experiencing a very unusual situation,” de Blasio told reporters, who peppered him with questions about the scandal.

“So I thought it was appropriate to make an inquiry, and I got a response,” he added. “And that’s the end of the story.”

Bishop Orlando Findlayter, who was instrumental in getting out the black vote for de Blasio, was pulled over Monday night in East Flatbush for making a left turn without signaling.

The pastor had two open warrants and a suspended license — and was facing a night in jail at the 67th Precinct station house because the courts were about to close for the night.
De Blasio, told by a staffer that his pal was in custody, admittedly made a call to NYPD Deputy Chief Kim Royster, a top spokeswoman, to learn of Findlayter’s status.
Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lehr, commanding officer of the 67th Precinct, ordered that the pastor be sprung — in violation of NYPD protocol.

According to the current patrol guide, arrestees who have open federal, state or local warrants must remain in custody until they can be brought before a judge.
De Blasio on Thursday was impatient and dismissive.

“So I think it’s absolutely appropriate if I make an inquiry to make an inquiry and get information,” he said.

He insisted he never asked for special treatment for Findlayter.

“The precinct commander made a professional decision” based on the fact that the open warrants were only for a civil-disobedience arrest, the mayor said.

“By the time I even got an answer, the decision had been made. I thought the police commander handled it well.”

Findlayter is a pastor without a brick-and-mortar church because he failed to pay rent at his New Hope Christian Fellowship church in East Flatbush. But his support for de Blasio in June was a huge boost when the candidate was fourth in Democratic polls.
“The mayor involved himself in a police matter on behalf of a supporter and a friend,” the government-watchdog group Common Cause said in a statement.

“It is inappropriate for the mayor to exercise favoritism, regardless of the pastor’s prominence.

fess up friday - the design daredevil

Happy Friday my Valentine's! Today's Fess Up Friday features the lovely Jessie from The Design Daredevil. Girlfriend has style in spades (check out her latest reveal here), she's been on TWO shows on HGTV, and lucky for me she's local. Oh, and her apartment is pretty much my dream pad. And a warning to all of you St. Louis retailers - Jessie and I are hitting the streets together soon. Prepare.

So Jessie, Fess Up!

Hello hello hello LBD readers! I am excited to be Elizabeth's guest, as she is my fellow St. Louis blog sister. I'm not even half the blogger she is, so I'm sure most of you have not met me yet. I am a 32 year old interior designer working under the firm CURE Design Group. Here are a few looks at projects I've either completed, or am in the middle of working on...

Fun and cheerful, full of color and pattern. Cute, right? Well...it's all a lie. A big, fat COLORFUL lie.
That's right folks; I, Jessie D. Miller, do not like color.

GAH! I'm sure that I just lost 99% of you. Come back. Please? I have my reasons, I swear.

You see, working as a full time interior designer, with anywhere from 4-10 different projects going on at one time, I am visually assaulted with color and pattern on a daily basis. I am constantly selecting paint colors, accent colors, and coming up with a "pop of color"; so in my personal space I crave NO color.
But don't get it twisted, I didn't mean that my home is neutral. Oh no, I want high contrast by way of black, white, and gold/brass.
Here is a peek at my still-not finished apartment by way of crappy, un-styled iPhone pics. Don't judge me. At least not until its done.

Jessie Miller Apartment 4Jessie Miller Apartment 3Jessie Miller Apartment 1Jessie Miller Apartment 2 Yup, not a "Pop of Color" in sight. Just the way I like it.
But I'm not completely heartless. I did add some green to my balcony, the only "done' part of my home.

I mean, I'm not a total hater.
Plus, I love to go all out decorating for the holidays. My home is adaptable to all kinds of different themes.IMG_2604_FotorThanksgiving 9Thanksgiving 1Gold Christmas Tree 5Gold Christmas Tree 16

Okay, still not a lot of color, but you get the idea. So, do you think I'm all Patrick Bateman, or are you willing to give me a chance? I may live in a stark home, but I lead a colorful life.

Thank you so much for having me Elizabeth! And when the heck are we going to get
drunkdrinks and go thrifting? Hopefully we can report back on that soon, but in the mean time follow my design adventures on IG @designdaredevil

Jessie, we are going to have some colorful drinks in honor of this post! So what do y'all think? Do you live with a lot of color? Or just enjoy it from 9-5?

Another OBAMACARE DELAY

Why the delay?

We the people must be in compliance but it's OK when they don't make the deadline.  There are many people that are already paying more for healthcare as a result of this mass debacle and their lives are completely and financially ruined as a result.  Behind the scenes what is not being reported enough is how this is leading to depression and suicide.

Eventually the well to do are going to lose their 401K's, IRA's, and various other investment portfolios they thought were safe.  Those people in the high places of government, along with the vast Hollywood and sports entertainment industry here in America are the ones to watch.  When (not if) they lose their money they will really lose it:

Four Dairy Workers Charged With Animal Cruelty In Green Bay

The Brown County District Attorney's office charge 3 men and 1 woman with animal cruelty for beating and abusing cows.

By H. Nelson Goodson
February 14, 2014

Green Bay, WI - On Tuesday, the Brown County District Attorney's office charged Abelardo Jaimes, 31, Lucia Martínez, 39, and Misael Monge-Minero, 33, with three counts of misdemeanor each for mistreating animals and Crecencio Pineda, 26, with two misdemeanor counts of mistreating animals. The suspects beat, kicked, probed and dragged cows by ropes and even lifted one with a forklift.
The edited short version video was aired by NBC and afterwards several large corporations, DiGiorno Pizza and Nestle Pizza stopped buying cheese made from the Wiese Brothers farm milk.

G.A.L.O.S. And Velasquez Swindled $1.4M From N.Y. Puerto Rican Parade Fundraising

Carlos Velasquez,  President of G.A.L.O.S.

Velasquez's marketing company G.A.L.O.S. and the National Puerto Rican Day Parade 10-year contract to raise funding has been terminated by order of the New York State Attorney General's Office.

By H. Nelson Goodson
February 13, 2014

New York, NY - On Thursday, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the reorganization of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP), a non-profit organization and the termination of a ten year contract between Carlos Velasquez, including his for-profit fundraising G.A.L.O.S.  (GALOS) company. Velasquez and his company allegedly submitted false financial fundraising records to the state, which indicated that between 2008 to date failed to report $1.4 million that it raised on behave of the NPRDP. Under GALOS, Velasquez managed to misappropriate those funds for his own personal gain. Velasquez's company had worked with the NPRDP for more than 30 years as its marketing and fundraising corporate firm.
GALOS was also tied to Diversity Foundation, Inc. (DF) whose board of directors had close ties with Velasquez. The DF non-profit foundation allowed itself to be used for commercial interests instead of focusing in providing scholarships to Hispanics and Puerto Rican college students.
The DF reported it gave out so many scholarships,  but a state audit found that it awarded far less scholarships then it reported.
Velasquez billed the NPRDP for more than $1 million for its services and contract agreements. The New York state attorney general's office (NYAG) ordered Velasquez to forgive the $1M debt and to repay $100,000 to the NPRDP. Velasquez and GALOS were barred from having any connection or influence in the NPRDP organization.
The NYAG confirmed that under the settlement agreement, "GALOS and Mr. Velasquez are required to cooperate with NPRDP in its reorganization of the parade with new personnel, and any acts of interference on their part could result in additional monetary penalties. GALOS and Mr. Velasquez are permanently banned from further fundraising on behalf of the NPRDP or any marketing of the parade."
Also under the settlement, five NPRDP board members were removed for lack of providing any system of accountability for what GALOS and Velasquez were doing with the fundraising and travel expenses being billed to the organization. The following NPRDP board members were forced to step down, NPRDP President Madelyn Lugo; her husband, General Coordinator Luis Rivera, and Treasurer Shirley Cox and two honorary board members. Ten new board members were to be added to the NPRDP.
The following people were picked as the new addition to the remaining board. They are, Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez, Executive Vice President for Multicultural Markets & Engagement at AARP; Anthony Diaz, a Senior VP in Sales & Trading for a prominent blue chip company; Maria Elena Girone, President & CEO of Puerto Rican Family Institute; Rosa Gutierrez, Vice President in finance at AIG; Louis Maldonado, Partner and Managing Director at d expósito & Partners, a multimedia communications agency; Ululy Rafael Martinez, community activist, attorney and Bronx Community College Foundation  board member; Carmen A. Pacheco, Esq., founding Partner at Pacheco & Lugo, PLLC; Orlando Plaza, owner of Camaradas El Barrio, a restaurant and cultural mainstay in Spanish Harlem; and Lorraine Rodriguez-Reyes, actress and producer with extensive experience in the film, television and theater industry.
The new NPRDP board is now required to amend its by-laws and adopt new policies and procedures to enhance its internal controls and financial oversight, including the formation of an audit committee, processes for the nomination and election of new directors, the adoption of anti-nepotism rules and conflict-of-interest and whistleblower policies, and the requirement to obtain competitive bids from prospective fundraisers or marketing agents. In addition, all directors, both the remaining ones and the newly elected, will be required to complete an ethics and non-profit compliance training course, according to the NYAG.

Al Roker slams de Blasio for not closing schools as storm drops up to a foot of snow; Mayor hits back with icy response

Who does Al Roker think he is, Bill O’Reilly?  This is a rare occasion I’m siding with Bill de Blasio for keeping he schools open.  And it’s not because de Blasio needs my defense.
It’s purely selfish on my part.  I had to go to school in weather worse than this in the late 60s and early 70s.  So these little crumb crunchers can do it too,

NY DailyNews reports Al Roker can add political pundit to his resume.

The NBC weatherman, who normally has a rather sunny disposition, traded icy barbs with Mayor de Blasio Thursday for Hizzoner’s handling of Thursday’s snow storm.

“I knew this am @NYCMayorsOffice @NYCSchools would close schools. Talk about a bad prediction. Long range DiBlasio (sic) forecast: 1 term,” the “Today” show forecaster tweeted.

Roker, who also blasted Atlanta officials for their bungled response to last month’s winter storm that crippled the area, said his daughter was dismissed early from her school.
“Why are schools all around NYC closed? It's going to take some kid or kids getting hurt before this goofball policy gets changed,” Roker tweeted.

Mayor de Blasio offered a frosty response to the popular weatherman’s tweets during a press briefing on the storm.

“I respect Al Roker a lot, watched him on TV for many many years,” de Blasio said. “It's a different thing to run a city than to give weather on TV.”
He also said the city isn’t making major decisions based off of Roker’s “Today” show forecast.

"I respect all the meteorologists out there, but the one I respect the most is called the National Weather Service," de Blasio said.
