The Death Of Services Pricing Power

The following chart shows the consumer price index for services divided by the consumer price index for nondurables.

Goodbye service economy tailwinds.
Hello service economy headwinds.

Perhaps Bernanke can give our service economy some inflation but he sure can't seem to target where it goes. As seen in the chart, we eventually managed to get back to the trend line in the aftermath of the 1970s. We're sure making feeble progress these days though. Fantastic. Get out the party hats.

In fact, I am not confident that we will ever return to the trend line. This is yet another epic exponential growth failure. Using the power of future hindsight, we might even consider ourselves fortunate if we can maintain present levels. Sigh.

Why is this bad? When nondurables rise in price faster than services then this service economy's many, many service employees get the short end of the stick (even less stick than they currently think they are getting).

Durable good

Examples of nondurable goods include fast moving consumer goods such as cosmetics and cleaning products, food, fuel, beer, cigarettes, medication, office supplies, packaging and containers, paper and paper products, personal products, rubber, plastics, textiles, clothing and footwear.

While durable goods can usually be rented as well as bought, nondurable goods generally are not rented.

Nondurables are generally not rented yet? Say what? I sense a business opportunity!

Renting Prosperity

Americans are getting used to the idea of renting the good life, from cars to couture to homes. Daniel Gross explores our shift from a nation of owners to an economy permanently on the move—and how it will lead to the next boom.

Rent the good life! Premium Gasoline! Beluga Caviar! Gurkha Black Dragons! Samuel Adams' Utopias! Lucentis! The Nondurable Rental Corporation of America will fulfill all your nondurable rental dreams and then some with low, low payments amortized over your remaining expected lifespan (with only modest surcharges of course)!

Have I mentioned lately that I'm a permabear? This is not investment advice. It's a business opportunity! Tap those severely tapped consumers before they are entirely tapped-out again! What could possibly go wrong? Genius!

In the epic battle between health care services, college education services, and nondurable fuel prices, which pain will ultimately reign supreme? Stay tuned! It's sure to be a hoot!

Obamacare Enrollments Surpass 1 Million - GOP Hate This

Obamacare Enrollments Surpass 1 Million - GOP Hate This

"Everybody talks about how horrible this website is and all the glitches and stuff, but I tell you, it was the best experience I ever had shopping for insurance," said Rawlings, who owns an architectural design firm. Rawlings chose the highest level of coverage, a Platinum plan that includes dental benefits, for $550 a month, or about $50 more than he pays for a medical-only policy for just himself this year. He earns too much to qualify for tax credits to reduce his premiums.

WASHINGTON -- More than two months after Obamacare's ugly debut, the number of Americans using the system is starting to grow: Nearly 1.2 million people are on track to have health coverage in place next year from the law's health insurance exchanges, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday.
From Oct. 1 through Nov. 30, almost 365,000 people enrolled into private health insurance via the federal and state marketplaces and more than 803,000 were deemed eligible for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program, according to the department.
The federally run exchanges in more than 30 states accounted for 137,000 of the enrollments in private coverage, and the remaining states signed up 227,000. About 1.9 million more people had been determined eligible for coverage through the marketplaces, but hadn't yet chosen a health plan. The new data don't include an apparent flurry of enrollments in the early days of December.

repeat performance or keeping it fresh

I've been slowly working on getting my house Christmas ready and one of the things that keeps a pep in my step for this yearly ritual is the idea of mixing it up. What will I do with the mantel this year? What type of tree should we get? Lights outside or not?

Sneak peak of my mantel from Instagram

I don't find it stressful, I find it comforting. It is almost as if I'm adding another layer of warmth just as it gets extra frigid outside. It gets me in the spirit and sparks special memories and traditions. (Cue the Hallmark movie cheese ball music)

What about you? Do you put everything in the same place every year? Do you clear the decks and start fresh each year? Do you have any weird traditions or items that you must do/pull out before it feels like the holidays have started?

And don't forget to catch today's feature on the 12 Days of Christmas Tour of Homes. I've listed the first three homes below.

Day 1 - Evolution of Style
Day 2 - Shine Your Light
Day 3 - Dixie Delights

Happy Wednesday!

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Oh no, President Obama shook hands with Raul Castro. Everyone should know the frigging sky is now going to fall in and American capitalism is going to be destroyed by this single handshake.

The delusional and idiot extreme right wing has nothing more important to focus on? Like fiscal mismanagement? Corporate welfare? Excessive unneeded DOD spending? The list goes on...

Media outlets, and most specifically the furthest right in the media is increasingly becoming a joke and as a result making itself more irrelevant.

From none other than Breitbart:

For those who believe in human rights and liberty, the sight of our president bounding up some stairs to energetically shake hands with Raul Castro, dictator of Cuba, was more than a little unsettling -- regardless of the circumstance. But that's what President Obama seemed to go out of his way to do at Nelson Mandela's memorial service Tuesday. Although Castro has imprisoned American Alan Gross for four years now, CNN alternately applauded and made excuses for the handshake.

Obviously worried that shaking hands with a dictator might hurt Obama politically, the media were quick to play goalie. CNN's Chris Cuomo went so far as to read Obama's mind and report on the president's true intent:

And that handshake obviously was a huge moment. But not to be misunderstood, the handshake with Raul Castro, the president of Cuba, we believe was President Obama showing respect to Nelson Mandela and the occasion of today, the spirit of reconciliation. Of course, it will be dissected politically. …

No matter the ongoing political disputes, on this day, it was about something bigger. It was about forgiveness and reconciliation, because it was about a man who was bigger: Nelson Mandela. And that is what the tribute has been all about today.

Cuomo never bothered to mention that Castro is a dictator.

Like that realty matters in the big picture of what's actually important John Nolte.

Why is it the current political and media landscape so populated with wing nuts? The right, (and to a lesser degree the left) is out of its frigging mind.

Mass Killers For La Familia Michoacana Arrested By Mexican Federal Police

Felipe Viveros García, José Bernabé López Alcaraz and Froylán Barrera Morales

Mexican federal authorities arrested García who mastermind, participated and order at least 200 victims to be killed by his associates.

December 10, 2013

Jalisco, Mexico - On Tuesday, Mexican federal authorities announced that Felipe Viveros García, 30, a known leader of La Familia Michoacana had been arrested in Jalisco. García is considered the mastermind who ordered kidnappings, murders, extortions, drug and weapons trafficking in the states of Guerrero and Jalisco. Along with García's arrest, the following suspects were also taken into custody, José Bernabé López Alcaraz, 43, and Froylán Barrera Morales, 40.
García, Alcaraz and Morales are connected to at least 200 homicides, in which García personally murdered some of the kidnapped victims and rival cartel members. Some kidnapped victims were held in safehouses operated by La Familia Michoacana in the municipalities of Teloloapan and Arcelia.
García operated in the municipalities of Teloloapan, Apaxtla de Castrejón, Cuetzala del Progreso, Tepecuacuilco, Iguala de la Independencia and Arcelia, in the state of Guerrero, and in other various municipalities in Jalisco, according to Federal Police and Mexico's Attorney General's Office who successfully planned and coordinated the arrests of the three suspects.

Logo Controversy And Slumped Sales Forces Ralph Lauren To Slash Price For T-shirt With Thunderbird Tee Style Logo

Ralph Lauren t-shirt Thunderbird Tee Style logo and United Farm Workers Logo, the Lauren design has longer legs than the UFW logo design.

UFW has launched a national campaign to force the Ralph Lauren corporate to stop exploiting its logo for commercial purposes.

By H. Nelson Goodson
December 10, 2013

Keene, CA - This Holiday season, Ralph Lauren has dramatically slashed the price for its controversial T-shirt Thunderbird Tee Style logo wear. The t-shirt sold for $65 back about a month ago, but Ralph Lauren later offered it for just $29.50 and now it sells for a mere $14.99 on its website. The Ralph Lauren New York fashion clothing manufacturer apparently copied its logo from the United Farm Workers Organization (UFW), according to a claim made by the Cesar E. Chavez UFW organization. Ralph Lauren hasn't removed the Thunderbird Tee Style logo from its wear or website, but slumped sales and the controversy behind its logo brand has indeed affected sales and profits on this particular item.
Last November, the UFW organization announced that the New York fashion clothing designer Ralph Lauren had been exploiting its logo for several months and is a copyright infringement. The UFW wants the Ralph Lauren corporation to pull all the t-shirts depicting the UFW registered trademark black eagle logo from its shelves.
The UFW had received information by people who noticed a Ralph Lauren t-shirt with a similar UFW registered trademark black eagle logo being sold at Urban Outfitters stores for $65 each in California and attorney's representing the UFW contacted the store of its logo copyright infringement. Since then, the UFW has been in good faith discussions with Urban Outfitters for reparations and future insurance against such violations, the UFW says.
UFW attorneys had written twice to the estimated $6.5B clothing Ralph Lauren corporation in New York that they were using the UFW trademark logo without permission. In response, Ralph Lauren is claiming their Thunderbird Tee Style logo is not similar to the UFW logo and "that people would not make the connection between the eagle on the t-shirt and the UFW logo."
UFW stated that Cesar Chavez' brother Richard designed the UFW Black Eagle so that union members could easily draw it on handmade red flags. Cesar said, "A symbol is an important thing. That is why we chose an Aztec eagle. It gives pride...When people see it they know it means dignity."
Ralph Lauren's expropriation of the UFW's Black Eagle dishonors the trademark and those who have fought and died for the integrity it represents. It falsely implies the UFW may have endorsed Ralph Lauren clothing, damaging the UFW's extensive goodwill, according to the UFW.
The UFW expects to legal action against Ralph Lauren, if the clothing corporation doesn't comply and remove all their merchandise depicting the UFW black Aztec eagle from shelves. The UFW has also started a national campaign for people to contact Ralph Lauren and demand for them to pull all of their infringing products from their shelves.

Domestic Violence Charge Dropped Against Aron Ralston In Colorado

A complaint was dismissed in Colorado against Ralston after an altercation with his girlfriend, involving his son.

December 10, 2013

Denver, Colorado - On Monday, prosecutors dismissed a domestic violence charge against Aron Ralston, 38, a hiker, who was taken into custody and booked at the Denver County jail for a domestic violence charge. Ralston was charged with two misdemeanor counts for assault and wrongs to a minor, after an altercation involving his two year girlfriend, Vita Stragmalia Shannon, 38, and young son, according to Denver police. Shannon who was also taken into custody was charged with assault and disturbing the peace. She pleaded not guilty and posted a $550 bail bond to be released. If convicted of both counts, Shannon is facing a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
She apparently struck Ralston in the back of head twice with her fists and as she was leaving her home at the 600 block of Corona Street, Ralston shoved her. The altercation happened in front of his son and his 8-week-old child.
Ralston is best known for his self amputation incident at a Utah mountain in 2003. Ralston was hiking through a canyon alone when he fell slipped and fell between deep split in a canyon and had his arm got trapped by dislodged boulder. After five days, Ralston decided to cut part his arm off with a dull knife and managed to get out and seek help. The self amputation incident inspired a book and movie of his ordeal in 2010 titled "127 Hours."

How many of America’s “poor” are like this lady and her husband?

How many of America’s “poor” are like this lady and her husband?

The way that many welfare recipients think was revealed in a call to a radio talk show on KLBJ-AM in Austin, Texas. Lucy, a 32 year-old married mother of three, whose parents also had been on welfare, said this about her situation:

“I just wanted to say while workers out there and people like you that are preaching morality at people like me that are living on welfare, can you really blame us?  I mean, I get to sit home, I get to go visit my friends all day, I even get to smoke weed, and people that I know that are illegal immigrants, that don’t contribute to society, we still going to get paid. Our check’s going to come in the mail every month and it’s going to be on time. And we get subsidized housing, we even get presents delivered for our kids at Christmas. Why should I work?”

“So you know what? You all get the benefit of saying, ‘Oh, look at me. I’m a better person,’ because you all are going to work. We’re the ones getting paid. So can you really blame us?”

Asked if her husband works, she said he does sometimes, but “he doesn’t really see the need for it.” Has she ever worked? “A couple of times.” Does she ever feel guilty about gaming the system and taking money other people have earned? “But you know, if someone offers you a million dollars, would you walk away from it? It’s easy to preach morality, and that’s the only reason why I called. It’s easy to say, ‘Well, yeah, you know, you’re making your living off of other people’s backs.’ But, you know, if somebody gave you a million dollars, and said that, here, you don’t got to work for it, no strings attached. Here, just take it, you can do whatever you want to do with it. You would take it, too.”

The host asked if she was calling in on an “Obamaphone” (a cell phone provided by the federal government) and she answered that she was. Then, when asked how much she received each month, she said she only pays $50 a month for rent that should be $600, so that’s $550, $425 in food stamps, $150 for her electric bill, and $100 on her water bill from the City of Austin. That comes to $1,225 a month, $14,700 a year, just less than the current federal minimum wage. Plus the cell phone.

She also said that when you are in government programs, “they are always coming to you and offering more programs,” and will even pay you to go to find out about where you can get more money. “They encourage you to stay on the programs.”

Asked if her money was cut off, would she get up every day and go to work, she said, “yes, I’d have to.”

This situation makes perfect sense to people like Lucy and her husband, who never learned the lesson that mature, responsible human beings make their own way in life, and who now live a relatively comfortable life without having to do anything to help themselves. They are a product of the failed War on Poverty for which we can thank President Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ), the namesake of the radio station Lucy called. They are among a large and growing number of Americans being taught that the government will take care of them, and they don’t have to do well in school, or learn a trade, or look for a job, or do much more than draw breath.

Last year the Census Bureau reported that 46 million Americans were in “poverty.”  But how many of those are really poor and need some help, and how many are like Lucy and her hubby; playing a system that allows those eager for a free ride to get one?

Census Bureau data reveals the following about people classified as “poor”: eighty percent of poor households enjoy air conditioning; nearly three-fourths own a car or truck, and 31 percent own two or more cars or trucks, nearly two-thirds subscribe to cable or satellite television, 50 percent own a personal computer, and one in seven owns two or more computers; 43 percent subscribe to Internet access; one-third own a wide-screen plasma or LCD television; one-fourth own a digital video recorder system, such as a TiVo; more than half of poor families with children own a video game system, such as an Xbox or PlayStation.

Poverty ain’t what it used to be.

It isn’t government’s job to help individuals who are down on their luck, and as the War on Poverty has demonstrated, it does a lousy job of it. And it surely isn’t government’s job to give taxpayer’s money to people who don’t really need it, or to actively recruit people who don’t need welfare onto welfare roles. That is the epitome of government disservice, and elected official’s self-service.

George Bernard Shaw’s famous quote has been used a lot recently, but it has never been truer than today: “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”

Americans Are Frightened and Angry ... J. D. Longstreet
Americans Are Frightened and Angry
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

**************
I spoke to a friend recently, the owner of a small business in my neck of the swamp.  He told me business was, for all intents and purposes, dead.   He volunteered that he could trace the drop off in sales to approximately the time America became
"aware" of Obamacare, around mid October of 2013.

As we discussed the mess America is in, he volunteered the following:  "J. D.," he said, "People are scared to death!"  We spoke of how people were holding on to so-called disposable income, money they would have readily spent on things that would have made life more pleasant for themselves and their families.   Earmarked money for projects for the home and business, too, is being held  back.

Why?

Obamacare.

Since October, average Americans have finally zeroed-in on what Obamacare means for them, their families, and their way of life as well, as the effect it is already having on the country they love.

They are more than a little troubled.

They are holding on to the money they have for fear they they will have no insurance, or no insurance they can count on, when they really need it.   To these Americans, Obamacare is not a blessing.  No.  It is a CURSE!

They are angry.  It is an anger that is deepening by the day into a white hot rage.  They are asking:  "Who did this to me, to my family, to my country?"  Quickly, they surmise the answer -- the Democratic Party and Obama.  There is no other answer, not even  another partial answer.  Obamacare was and remains solely a power grab by the democrats without  a single republican voting for it or supporting it.  There is no question as to whom their anger must be directed.

The last time Americans were this angry, they were colonists and the government to which they were tethered was across the Atlantic, in England, and paid no mind to the “disgruntled” Americans.  Today the government is in Washington, DC.  Frankly, little else has changed!

The end result of the first scenario above was revolution.  The end result of the second scenario above may be the same thing!

WE are hearing and reading the word “Revolution,” frequently, these days.   It is being used more and more by Americans in daily conversations and especially on the Internet, by bloggers, and everyday folks who comment on those bog sites.

Americans have had all they are going to take from a government that gives all indications that it simply doesn’t care what we Americans (their constituents)  think,  or what we want, or what we do not want.  We never intended a “rogue” government such as we have today.  We will not abide a rogue government such as we have today.

It is an unfortunate truth that our government has grown far, far, too big, far, far too powerful, and no longer represents the people of The Republic.

We have a bunch of Socialists, Marxists, Progressives/Communists, and only God, Himself, knows what else ruling over us today.   I don’t know who they represent -- but they do not represent the American people.

That Obamacare bill the democrats passed through Congress is going to break the country and destroy the world’s finest healthcare system.

57% of us said NO; we’d rather have no healthcare bill at all than have that monstrosity.  Yet the dems rammed it through, anyway.  Well, the fight is NOT completely over -- and believe me when I say -- we are going to fight for an eventual repeal of the Affordable Care Act -- aka -- Obamacare.  It took thirteen years to repeal Prohibition.  Believe me when I tell you we have only just begun to fight.

Pollsters tell us that 66% of Americans want smaller government and fewer government services.  Is Congress paying attention?  NO.  Even if they had heard us, they would have shrugged it off and continued on their merry way.

I don't recall a time -- in my lifetime -- when America was in worse shape.  I have NEVER seen it in worse shape -- and that includes all the wars in my lifetime.

We have a President so inept that it is unbelievable -- and yet he would rule by fiat.  We have a Congress, which has gone rogue and set itself up as an oligarchy in which all power is vested in them as the dominant class or clique.  America now has government by the few.  It sounds very much like the conditions the colonists found themselves in prior to the Revolutionary War.

These are serious times, indeed, dangerous times in America.

In November of 2014, democrats will be driven from office by waves of wrathful, angry, just plain MAD Americans who wish election day were today!

It will take decades, possibly even a generation (or even two) to correct the damage Obama and the democrats have done to our country.

Feds Indicted 18 Former And Current Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies For Corruption And Civil Rights Violations

The feds charged 18 former and current Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies for corruption and civil rights violations stemming from inmate abuses.

By H. Nelson Goodson
December 10, 2013

Los Angeles, CA - On Monday, André Birotte Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California announced that 18 former and current Los Angeles County Sheriff's (LASD) deputies were indicted for alleged corruption, and abusing inmates and visitors. 16 of the deputies were taken into custody on Monday at Los Angeles County Sheriff's facilities and the rest voluntarily surrendered to the FBI.
All of the deputies indicted in five separate cases appeared in a federal court on Monday to face charges of corruption, obstruction, making false arrests and abusing inmates and visitors. Birotte described, that deputies were allowed to beat and humiliate inmates, including visitors.
A two year investigation involved five cases that revealed Sheriff Lee Baca did nothing to prevent such abuses and corruption within the department after a commission criticized him for a lack of oversight and allowing deputies to act like if they were about the law.
Baca denied the allegations, but the FBI probe found that deputies thought they were above the law and continued to abuse inmates.
Two Lieutenants, Gregory Thompson and Stephen Leavins are accused of hiding an FBI informant and changing department records by housing the inmate in another section of the downtown jail. The inmate was testifying against deputies involve in abuses of inmates.
Several Sergeants, Scott Graig and Maricella Long are accused of trying to intimidate an FBI agent into providing information about the probe against the rest of the deputies and supervisors.

In one case, United States v. Brunsting and Branum, CR13-573

Two deputy sheriffs – Bryan Brunsting and Jason Branum – are charged in a six-count indictment with civil rights violations and making false statements in reports. Brunsting, who was a training officer, is charged in relation to an incident in which an inmate allegedly was assaulted and suffered bodily injury. Both Brunsting and Branum are charged in another assault. The victims were inmates at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where both deputies worked. Following the two incidents, the indictment alleges that Brunsting used deputies he was training to file reports that covered up the abuse.

Second case, United States v. Gonzalez, et al., CR13-574

This indictment charges a sergeant and four deputies with civil rights violations that allege they arrested or detained five victims – including the Austrian consul general – when they arrived to visit inmates at the Men's Central Jail (MCJ) in 2010 and 2011.
The lead defendant in this indictment – Sergeant Eric Gonzalez, who was a supervisor in the MCJ visiting center, but no longer works for LASD – fostered an atmosphere "that encouraged and tolerated abuses of the law, including through the use of unjustified force and unreasonable searches and seizures by deputy sheriffs he supervised," according to the indictment.
Each of the four deputies – Sussie Ayala, Fernando Luviano, Pantamitr Zunggeemoge and Noel Womack – are charged with participating in at least one of the four incidents in which victims allegedly suffered civil rights violations. In one incident, a man suffered a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder that has left him permanently disabled. In another incident, the Austrian consul general and her husband were handcuffed and detained.

Third case, United States v. Thompson, et al., CR13-819

This six-count indictment that alleges a broad conspiracy to obstruct justice charges seven sworn members of the LASD. This case developed when deputies assigned to the Men's Central Jail – including Lieutenant Gregory Thompson, who oversaw LASD's Operation Safe Jails Program, and Lieutenant Stephen Leavins, who was assigned to the LASD's Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau – learned that an inmate was an FBI informant and was acting as a cooperator in the FBI's corruption and civil rights investigation.
After learning that the inmate received a cellular phone from a deputy sheriff who took a bribe and that the inmate was part of a civil rights investigation, those allegedly involved in the obstruction scheme took affirmative steps to hide the cooperator from the FBI and the United States Marshals Service, which was attempting to bring the inmate to testify before a federal grand jury in response to an order issued by a federal judge. As part of the conspiracy, the deputies allegedly altered records to make it appear that the cooperator had been released. They then re-booked the inmate under a different name, and then told the cooperator that he had been abandoned by the FBI.
Over the course of several weeks, the deputy sheriffs allegedly also attempted to obtain an order from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge that would have compelled the FBI to turn over information about its investigation to LASD. After the judge refused to issue such an order, according to the indictment, two LASD sergeants who are charged in this case nevertheless confronted an FBI special agent at her residence in an attempt to intimidate her into providing details about the investigation. The sergeants falsely told the special agent and her supervisor that they were obtaining a warrant for her arrest, according to the indictment.
Thompson no longer works for LASD. The other deputies named in this indictment are Gerard Smith, Mickey Manzo, and James Sexton, who were assigned to the Operation Safe Jails Program; and Scott Craig and Maricella Long, who were LASD sergeants within the Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau.

The fourth case, United States v. Piquette, CR13-821

Deputy Richard Piquette is charged in the fourth indictment with illegally building and possessing an assault rifle. The indictment charges Piquette with possessing an unregistered Noveske Rifleworks N-4 .223 caliber rifle with a barrel length of less than 16 inches. The second count in the indictment charges Piquette with manufacturing the Noveske rifle. Piquette, who is currently on leave with LASD, was previously assigned to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. The investigation in this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The fifth case, United States v. Khounthavong, et al., 13-3105M

The fifth case unsealed on Monday is a criminal complaint that charges three LASD deputies, all of whom are brothers, with conspiracy to make false statements to two banks in connection with a "buy-and-bail" mortgage fraud scheme. The complaint alleges that the three deputies – Billy Khounthavong, Benny Khounthavong, and Johnny Khounthavong – made false statements and reports to Flagstar Bank to purchase a 3,900-square-foot residence in Corona. The brothers then made additional false statements and reports to Bank of America in relation to another large residence they owned. The brothers walked away from – or "bailed" on – that home in which they were "under water," meaning they owed substantially more than the residence was worth. As a result of the scheme, the brothers allegedly avoided more than $340,000 of unpaid mortgage debt. Benny Khounthavong and Johnny Khounthavong are assigned to LASD jail facilities.
The five cases announced on Monday are part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Birotte.

U.S. House Will End Their Final Session For 2013 This Week Without Immigration Reform In Sight

Luis V. Gutiérrez and President Barack H. Obama

This week will be the last time the U.S. House is scheduled for a session in 2013 and the House leadership has no plans to vote on immigration reform.

By H. Nelson Goodson
December 8, 2013

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. House will end their first session for 2013 and will not meet again until next year, automatically killing a U.S. Senate Immigration reform bill that was passed in June and any chance of passing an immigration reform bill in 2013 for President Obama to sign. Any hope of passing an Immigration reform bill before the week ends is dead and most likely, the effect will linger for the next six years.
Immigrant rights groups, activists, unions, clergy and federal legislators in favor of an immigration reform bill have come to realize that it will become even more difficult to influence reform for the next six to eight years due to the uncertainty of which political party will have enough majority control in both Houses and the White House to pass a bill.
Last week, Congressmen Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-IL) who has advocated for immigration reform for the last five years believes, immigration reform is not dead, but any bill dealing with immigration reform has an uncertain future in coming years. Gutiérrez has acknowledged that this year, immigration reform will not be achieved. According to a news release by Gutiérrez legislative office, he has now joined Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and other Members of Congress (Reps. Schakowsky, Rangel, Holt, Titus, Doggett) in releasing a letter from Members of Congress to the President asking him to use his executive power under current law to dial back certain deportations. The letter, signed by 29 Members, says: "Our efforts in Congress will only be helped by the sensible and moral step of stopping deportations."
Gutiérrez specifically called for a cessation on deportations for the parents of young people who have received DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and those who would be eligible for legal status under the terms of the Senate bipartisan immigration bill (S. 744) passed in June of this year.  The Senate bill has been endorsed by the President, according to the news release.
In a press conference announcing a letter that was sent to Obama, Gutiérrez said, "If your child has received DACA, you should not be deported.  If you qualify for legalization under the Senate bill -- a bill the President and the rest of the country supports -- you should not be deported."
Obama has come out in favor of immigration reform, but has failed to act on halting the deportation of undocumented immigrants and the parente of DACA DREAMers.
Obama did approved for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to use discretion in not deporting family members of active military service personnel and resident Veterans, provided they have no criminal record and convictions.

"Save Me" last words of a Toronto woman who died after reaching the summit of Mount Everest

"Save Me" last words of a Toronto woman who died after reaching the summit of Mount Everest

Shriya Shah-Klorfine (33) died on Mt Everest
(a candidate for Mississauga East-Cooksville in the last Ontario election)

The last words of a Toronto woman who died after reaching the summit of Mount Everest were "save me," says a close friend.

Climbers normally are advised not to try for the summit after 11 a.m. The area above the last camp at the South Col is nicknamed the "death zone" because of the steep icy slope, treacherous conditions and low oxygen level.
Shriya Shah-Klorfine of Toronto was one of four people who died while descending from the summit Saturday in what are being described as overcrowded conditions.

An estimated 150 climbers tried to reach the top Friday and Saturday as they rushed to use a brief window of good weather in an otherwise troubled climbing season. Many had been waiting at a staging camp for several days for their chance to head to the summit.
"There was a traffic jam on the mountain on Saturday. Climbers were still heading to the summit as late as 2:30 p.m., which is quite dangerous," Shrestha said.
Shah-Klorfine was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, grew up in Mumbai, India and then moved to Canada to be with her husband and start an import business, SOS Splash of Style Inc. Last year, Shah-Klorfine was a candidate for Mississauga East-Cooksville in the last Ontario election as a member of the Paramount Canadians Party.
"It was her lifelong dream" to reach the summit of the world's tallest peak, said Siddoo. She said Shah-Klorfine and her parents had taken a helicopter to Everest when she was a nine-year old girl, and she had been fixated on climbing the mountain ever since.
It was Shah-Klorfine's first trek to the 8,850-metre peak. Her godfather, Bikram Lamba, said she mortgaged her house to pay for the expedition, at a cost of nearly $100,000.

Morales, a former Gallop Asian Bistro waitress, a lesbian and a former Marine Veteran who posted on a Facebook page in November that a family of four denied to give her a tip after serving at their table due to her "life style" has been fired from her job.

Bridgewater, New Jersey - On Saturday, Dayna Morales, 21, was terminated as a waitress from the Gallop Asian Bistro restaurant in New Jersey after it was learned from a New York local news station that she had lied about not getting a tip from a family of four because of her sexual orientation and life style. Last November, Morales posted a photo of a receipt for $93.55 on the "Have a Gay Day" Facebook (FB) page, which showed that a customer failed to give her a tip because she was gay.
On November 23, Morales posted a photo of the receipt and comment on the Have a Gay Day FB page. Morales comment, "I'm a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, NJ and THIS is what happened to me today.....The note says "sorry I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & the way you live your life"
NEVER in a million years did I think this would happen. Not only was it a family with two kids, but as I introduce myself and tell them my name is Dayna - the mom proceeds to look at me and say "oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us!
"I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free. Sorry lady but I don't agree with YOUR lifestyle and the way you're raising your kids but you didn't see me throwing that in your face and giving you shitty service. Keep your damn mouth shut and pray we never cross paths again. Dayna M."
The FB posting went viral on the social networks and was reported by national and local news outlets. People began to send donations totaling more than $3,000 to Morales at the restaurant.
But the customer who was being accused by Morales of not tipping her contacted a New York local news station and told them that Morales had made up the story because they never wrote a note on the receipt and did in fact tipped Morales.
The restaurant management now says after firing Morales on Saturday for her alleged deceit, that the donations generated will be donated to a charity.
On November 29, the customer and his family of three who were being accused by Morales that they didn't tip her because she was gay, contacted and provided local NBC4 News New York with a copy of a credit card receipt from the restaurant and a statement from the credit card company showing a total of $111.55 that they indeed included an $18.00 tip in the bill that Morales claimed wasn't included.
The management at the Gallop Asian Bistro restaurant posted the following statement in their FB account on Saturday, "The Gallop Asian Bistro has taken seriously the allegations made by Ms. Dayna Morales, and those made against her. Despite news reports to the contrary, this is not a simple, straight-forward matter and we have conducted our own internal investigation. The results of that investigation are inconclusive as to exactly what happened between Ms. Morales and the customers that night. However, in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant. We wish her well in the future."
Morales is not commenting about her recent tipping deceit and why she actually did it.

12 days of christmas tour of homes

Hope y'all had a great weekend. We are all fighting some phantom flu/cold bug that just won't leave our house and it took all the energy the hubs and I could muster to go out with the girls and get a tree. We managed to get it in the house, but now I need a burst of health to get it decorated. But, I know where I'll go for some holiday inspiration.

Today is the first day of The 12 Days of Christmas Tour of Homes. My tour won't be until next week (thank god) but today please do head over to Evolution of Style and see what a beautiful job Jenny has done with her home.

Follow along for the next 12 days for great inspiration and eye candy galore!

Have you finished your holiday decorations? Do you get a real tree or fake? Do you want to come over and help me with my tree? Happy Monday.

Oregon's Governor Violates the Oregon Constitution. Should he be removed from office?

"On November 15, Oregon's Governor John Kitzhaber, through his Insurance Commissioner Laura Cali, announced that Oregon health insurance companies would be allowed to extend current policies through 2014,   In doing so, the Governor and Insurance Commissioner violated Oregon law and the Oregon Constitution.  Even if his intentions are good, as chief executive the Governor only has the authority to execute the laws passed by the Legislature, not to supersede them." This I received in a newsletter from the State Representative Dennis Richardson.

The Governor has in effect assumed the power of decree, a power that is generally associated with Monarchs and Dictators.  This cannot be tolerated, John Kitzhaber and the insurance commissioner must be held to account, they should be removed from office through impeachment. To allow such precedence is a dangerous and illegal act, any politician that continues to support the governor is culpable should too be held to account at the election polls - we are a nation of laws and no one is exempt.

The same applies to the President on this very same issue. We are a nation of laws. No one is above the law.  Looking back on American history many of our forefathers fought and sacrificed their lives to escape the tyranny of monarchs.

Preambles link

Our history is clearest when you understand the Preambles to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

There are no Mulligans in the State or the Federal Constitution.

The fact that Obama Care (ACA) and the Oregon effort to implement it are miserable and embarrassing failures is irrelevant. Our elected officials at any and all levels must be expected to follow the law, period.
