Fox News reports Bob Grant, whose familiar voice boomed over the radio airwaves for more than 50 years, died on Tuesday, according to multiple reports and an obituary posted on the Branchburg Funeral Home’s website. He was 84.


Grant, born Robert Ciro Gigante, first broke into the radio biz in the 1940s and scored gigs at major radio stations around the country before he got his big break when he moved to New York City in the ‘70s and began working for WMCA. He went on to be the afternoon host for WABC.

After WABC, Grant made his way over to WOR and eventually turned to doing Internet broadcasts in his later years.

Grant was known for his unscripted broadcasts and his conservative viewpoints, never shying away from sharing his thoughts on the U.S. military and Israel.

LA Times reports the California Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday that a Mexican immigrant without a green card may be licensed as a lawyer, though his employment prospects will be limited.

In an opinion by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, the state's high court said a law passed late last year by the Legislature enabled the court to admit Sergio C. Garcia, 36, to the legal profession.

The Legislature passed the law after the court indicated in a hearing in September that it was bound by federal restrictions to deny Garcia a license. The federal law says immigrants without permission to be in the U.S. should be denied professional licenses unless state governments took action to override the ban.

 “We conclude that the fact that an undocumented immigrant’s presence in this country violates federal statutes is not itself a sufficient or persuasive basis for denying undocumented immigrants, as a class, admission to the State Bar,” the chief justice wrote.

The court said Garcia, who has been in the U.S. most of his life, will be able to practice law free of charge or outside the U.S. It is disputed, however, whether he could legally work for himself as an independent contractor and charge fees, the court said.

Alexandria Newsreports Alexandria Circuit Judge Nolan Dawkins today sentenced former T.C. Williams High School Teacher Stephen Miarer to ten years in prison for sexually abusing two female students. Dawkins suspended all but one year, which Miarer began serving immediately.

Miarer pleaded guilty on Nov. 1, 2013, to two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child by someone in a custodial or supervisory position. "This is not a bad case of poor judgement; this is a pattern and patterns continue to be a pattern until you are caught, and you were caught," Dawkins told Miarer in court today after listening to character witnesses who testified that Miarer was repentent. "We send our children to school...and entrust our children to you as teachers.

"I need to send a message to the community. You've got to go to jail," Dawkins said.
Two of Miarer's female students came forward to describe to prosecutors how Miarer convinced them that he was their boyfriend. "He was a teacher who was 20 years older than his victims," Alexandria Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Cathryn Evans said in court today. "He pursued and flirted with them and gave them his personal email and phone number.

"Over two school years [April, 2012 - January, 2013], he had sexual and romantic relations with the students. Each occured behind the walls of his classroom," Evans said.
Evans said that the evidence did not support defense claims that Miarer restrained himself. She told the court that it was not Miarer but his victims who ended the relationships.

Miarer apologized. "I'm sorry for my actions, to the students, their families, the community and my family," he said. "My only hope is I can help others."

Although Miarer was charged with two counts of sexual abuse, Evans told the court that a third victim chose not to prosecute. None of the victims testified at the sentencing.

Now, I have nothing against firearms, hunting, or ducks. In fact I admire individuals who take a risk and in the process create a successful business and become fabulously wealthy. After all, it is the American dream and it is the American way.

What I do have something against is racism, bigotry, and the belief that a man should marry an adolescent girl before she reaches the age of 15 or 16. All of which Phil Robertson has made clear he is in support of.

So, in as much as I admire business acumen and the desire and ability to make money I cannot abide supporting Duck Commander, Phil Robertson, or his family endeavor. I personally will NEVER by anything product marketed by Duck Commander and urge everyone of sane mind to BOYCOTT Duck Dynasty and ALL of its products. Give your business to the one of their competitors. Principle and real American values do, after all, matter.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) The family-owned business at the center of the hit TV show "Duck Dynasty" has launched its own line of guns.

The gunmaker Mossberg has teamed with Duck Commander, the company owned by "Duck Dynasty's" Robertson clan, to release nine different shotguns, as well as two semiautomatic rifles and a semiautomatic pistol.

Duck Commander was founded 40 years ago by Phil Robertson, the family patriarch who was recently suspended -- and then reinstated -- by A&E after making controversial remarks about gay people and African-Americans.

Colorado Gazette reports a teacher at Fruita 8/9 School is facing allegations he solicited topless photos from students — all of them high-school-age girls — via Facebook private messages over several months.

Randy Gene Majors, 58, who was placed on paid administrative leave Nov. 4 by School District 51, was arrested on Tuesday at his Grand Junction home on a Fruita Police Department warrant listing three counts of felony sexual exploitation of a child and five counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child. The warrant was signed Tuesday with a $20,000 bond.

Aside from his teaching position at Fruita 8/9 School, Majors also coaches high-school-level tennis, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The affidavit describes at least four victims in Majors’ criminal case; all girls ages 15 to 17 when the crimes allegedly happened.
