Ex-New Orleans Democrat Mayor Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin On Trial For Bribery

This was the incompetent and corrupt mayor of New Orleans that let hundreds of school busses sit idle while thousands city residents were desperately trying to flee Hurricane Katrina.  Of course the corrupt media was to happy blaming President Bush and allowed Nagin to escape the blame he fully deserved.
HuffingtonPost reports former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is going on trial on federal bribery charges.

The trial is scheduled to start Monday. Nagin is at the center of a corruption case that mushroomed at the end of his second term and led to several other guilty pleas or convictions.

Prosecutors allege that the 57-year-old Nagin accepted free trips and more than $200,000 in bribes from contractors in exchange for helping them secure lucrative city contracts.
Nagin was first elected in 2002 on a platform to curb corruption at City Hall.

Nagin is just plain sleazy!

no shoes no service

During our most recent snow storm I laid down a towel just beyond the rug in the entry to catch the extra wet boots, shoes, gloves, hats and whatever other crap is needed to deal with this horrible weather.

And then yesterday I finally got around to cleaning it up, putting things away and picking up that filthy towel. (It's amazing what a random 50 degree day can do for your mental wellbeing.) That towel was so disgusting I made a new house rule right then and there - no shoes in the house.

The girls and I are pretty good about taking our shoes off as soon as we walk in the door and sticking them in the black and white basket under our bench. But I'm going to start being that vigilant about everyone who comes in the house.

House and Home

When I lived "up north" (Iowa and Chicago) everyone took their shoes off when they walked into someone's house, especially in the winter. No questions asked.

However, I know for some it isn't a big deal at all. And others even consider it rude.

Would you ask people to remove their shoes when they come to your home? How do you do it without sounding bitchy anal inhospitable?

What about your house? Are you a no-shoes home? Do you make sure to wear good socks when you go over to someone's house...just in case?

Two Zumiez employees killed by lone gunman at the Mall of Columbia.

By H. Nelson Goodson
January 27, 2014

Columbia, Maryland - On Saturday, Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19, of College Park went to the Mall of Columbia armed with a shotgun and killed Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park and Tyler Johnson, 25, of Mount Airy, according to police. Both were employees at Zumiez, a skateboard shop at the mall.
Aguilar walked into the mall around 10:15 a.m., waited an hour and then went to the second level of the mall where the shop was located.
Aguilar used a Mossberg shotgun, which he bought legally in December. He fired between six to nine shots inside and outside the skateshop. Aguilar also shot one female in the foot and wounded four others when he fired his weapon to victims in the lower level of the mall. The victims were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
After fatally shooting both Benlolo and Johnson, Aguilar then turned the weapon on himself and committed suicide.
Police recovered the shotgun and homemade explosives from Aguilar's body. Aguilar worked as a manager at a Dunkin' Donuts shop.
No motive for the killings and suicide has been determined, according to police.

Acevedo Honored As Milwaukee Police Officer Of The Year By LPOA Local Chapter

Jose "Ace" Acevedo

Local Latino Peace Officers Association named Acevedo, one of its members as Officer of the Year 2013.

By H. Nelson Goodson
January 26, 2014

Milwaukee, WI - On Saturday, Officer Jose "Ace" Acevedo from the Second Police District Station was recognized as the Latino Peace Officers Association (LPOA) "Officer of the Year." Officer Acevedo is an active member of the LPOA and the Second District's police auxiliary coordinator and explorer coordinator.
Acevedo was recognized for his commitment to the community and the LPOA, according to Acevedo's Facebook posting.
In brief last Summer, the local LPOA made news after some of its members who volunteer as security for the annual Mexican Fiesta three day lakefront festival allegedly were involved in kicking out suspected gang members and a man with a facial tattoo from the event without just cause. The current LPOA president, Milwaukee Officer Alexander C. Ayala confirmed that the Milwaukee Police Intelligence center was used to identify the victims that were kicked out of fiesta without actual prove of their affiliation with gangs. The discriminatory policy was endorsed previously by the former LPOA president Ruben Burgos, a retired Milwaukee Police Lieutenant of Detectives.
The discrimination policy was also adopted by the Mexican Fiesta officials with the aid of the Milwaukee Police Department that sparked protests and a boycott for next year's fiesta by members of the community.
At a press conference held in September at the fiesta office run by the Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation (WHSF), which Hispanic News Network U.S.A. was barred from attending, they actually confirmed their policy to kick out or deny entry to any former, current or alleged future gang member from admission to the Mexican Fiesta grounds even though they hadn't committed any wrongdoing at the grounds.
The Summerfest grounds are owned by the City of Milwaukee and rents the area to World Festival Inc., who runs Summerfest at the lakefront.
Those kicked out from the fiesta last Summer were not given any recourse to prove such gang affiliation allegations were false and were never given a refund. The victims were ripped off by Mexican Fiesta.
Also, Mexican Fiesta, WHSF and several LULAC chapters deny access for scholarships to undocumented DREAMers, despite a majority of those attending the festival are undocumented and spent money at the event.

Destroy the Family -- Destroy the Country ... J. D. Longstreet

Destroy the Family -- Destroy the Country ... J. D. Longstreet
Destroy the Family -- Destroy the Country
By J. D. Longstreet

*****************************
We have all heard it said that the basic building block of society is the family. It's true, and has been true since the Garden of Eden. Until now, that is.

America's hedonist lifestyle has prevailed and we have made a remarkable decision.  We have decided that our wishes and desires, our lusting after, and coveting after well, everything, is far more important than a family.  As a result the American family, except for rare instances, doesn't exist anymore. Oh, we have groups of people we refer to as "family," often times living beneath the same roof, but it’s not a family… not in the true sense of the word.

There has been a movement underway in America -- since at least the early 1900's -- to tear this country down to its bare elements and rebuild it in the mold of a socialist/communist state.  To do that successfully, the American family must be destroyed.

The easiest way -- and the bloodless way -- to do that is to redefine what a family actually is.

And we have.

America has redefined Family until we have practically defined it out of existence.
I think that was intentional. Our socialist brothers and sisters, on the left, want to control this country and to do that they must destroy the basic building blocks of this republic and reassemble those blocks to suit themselves. As we noted above, the single most important building block of any nation is her families. If you destroy that, you can easily lay claim to a nation’s soul. And that is exactly what has happened.

It has been reported recently that families with unmarried parents now out number families with married parents in America. This, in itself, is more leftist propaganda.

Understand: The group of people with unmarried parents, at its head, is NOT a family... in the true sense of the word. So the entire report was based upon the flawed assumption that a family is a group of people with the authority figure either married or unmarried. That is not the classic family. That is a mob.

American society, today, is rotten at its core.  The core of any civilization is the family and when that core does not exist, or is mortally wounded, as ours in America is, then a country’s entire society is in peril. If there is any doubt that America’s society is in danger, pick up any newspaper, turn on any TV news channel, or just stand still for a moment and look around you.

Can there be any doubt that we have failed, as a people, to protect our families.

We have, through social programs, and such, made it much easier to dissolve the family and to create something acceptable to the progressive/socialists, working behind the scenes in America, in order to provide the necessities for that group, without them actually working for it, and no guidance is provided for the creation and sustainability of a nuclear family.  The issue (the children) of such a "mock-up" of a family have no way of knowing that their experience was/is anything less than normal and they create their own… and in so doing… perpetuate the rot at our core.

Here in America we have an entire underclass, and entire segment of American society, who are wards of the US government.

We have so many children, and grown young people, now, who were “raised by a village”, and not a family, that they lack those “familial ties” that anchor all humanity to the core of a family and that core is… love for one another. It isn’t there... and they are empty. Their souls are just barely attached to their bodies.

We look around us in awe, and wonder, when some child, or young adult, armed to the teeth, walks into a school and begins to pump round after round into innocent children. We gaze at the vivid stories on TV news of heinous murders committed by a young person who looks just like the boy, or girl, living down the street from us. And… we still don’t get it.

We gasp in horror when a young person ambushes another fellow human being completely unknown to him, and attempts to knock that person unconscious with a single blow ... as a game!

The truth is:  We have produced a generation, or two, of psychopaths.  Too harsh a term?  I think not.  The dictionary defines psychopath as:  "A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse."   -- SOURCE: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/psychopath

It’s OUR fault. We destroyed the American family. Why? Because it was expedient. A tight nit family is nearly impossible to manipulate. But as with any organization, break it apart… and you can destroy it, piece by piece, and THAT is what we have done.

Our children are sent to nurseries, as sucklings, because the mother must report for work at the end of the allotted family leave period. The children don’t see their parents, save for short periods in the morning, as they are prepared for daycare, in the evenings as they are prepared for bed, and on the weekend when parents are worn out from their daily jobs and have no time to spend with them.

Then those same children are sent off, at the age of six, to the public school system run by a government intent on molding their minds in the way it would have them go… and they spend 12 years in that system. The tie with their parents remains about the same, but becomes even more tenuous as the years speed by. Then… there is college. And there the finished product is rolled out. The liberalities of the college instructors and professors further mold those young minds into automatons of the socialist agenda.

The process is now complete and the product is a near heartless, soulless, individual who believes his upbringing was NORMAL!!!

We have at least two generations of these automatons and psychopaths walking among us. They are now in positions of power in our government, in our universities, in our public schools, and in our churches… and America is the worse for it.  We live our lives in a constant state of danger ... from our own offspring.

That shinning city on a hill has been corrupted and has become dull and its luster has faded. No longer does it stand as a shining beacon to the remainder of mankind as the promise of a nation, which seeks after God and liberty for its people.

Philosophers have for centuries told us that all great nations die at their own hands.  Consider the Greeks and the Romans, from which America drew so much in founding this republic. Those great civilizations have been tossed into the dustbin of history. Soon, it would seem,  America will join them.

When we define our families, we define our nation. The American family has been ruled, for all intents and purposes, irrelevant. We no longer even understand what a family is.
We have forgotten the family is the bedrock upon which the pillars of this great society stand. That bedrock has crumbled and our society is showing the effects.

It is said that change is inevitable. That may be, but change can be guided and channeled in the direction a society wants to travel. In America’s case, we channeled change in the wrong direction. We replaced America’s reliance upon God with reliance upon the Federal Government. We replaced the Ten Commandments with a code of laws developed by man and loosely based on the Ten Commandments, but… we deny even that. We replaced God in our public schools with school counselors, and policemen, and metal detectors… and murder. Our religion has gone weak in the knees with many of America’s mainline churches, saying openly, that the scriptures, which have served us for well over 2000 years, are no longer relevant, that God doesn’t actually matter anymore.

The plain truth is, dear reader, we have condemned ourselves.

The question now is -- can we turn it around?  That is difficult to answer. America is racing toward the apocalypse, the final hour when ALL will be irrelevant. Nothing will matter any longer. “The End” will have been writ large across the pages of history and America will be but a footnote.

America has grown fat and arrogant and,  like the builders of the tower of Babel, we have taken it upon ourselves to “be like God”. And, frankly… we’re not big enough.

Man’s instructions were simply enough. A man and woman should cling to one another and be fruitful and multiply... and create families. Children were admonished to honor their fathers and mothers. The parents, likewise, were admonished to not provoke their children to anger. In other words… love one another. Love was the basic building block of the family and the family was the basic building block of man’s society.

Now, here in America, we have destroyed the family. Our foundation is gone, our anchor is gone, and we are adrift, soon to slip beneath the waves… as history sails on… without America.

Seven Grafton teens arrested on felony witness intimidation charges for allegedly cyber-bullying the victim of a violent crime

Seven Grafton teens arrested on felony witness intimidation charges for allegedly cyber-bullying the victim of a violent crime

This is really tough stuff for a teen to deal with trying to seek justice.

Boston Globereports seven Grafton teens have been arrested on felony witness-intimidation charges for allegedly harassing the 15-year-old victim of a violent crime, Grafton Police Chief Normand Crepeau, Jr. said.

On Jan. 18, the victim’s mother told police of the alleged harassment of her child, Crepeau said in a phone interview Saturday. He said the victim’s mother told officers that her child was being threatened and demeaned by several acquaintances of a person charged with committing a violent crime against her child last year.

The victim’s mother told police officers James Crosby and Alvin Hulbert that her child had been repeatedly harassed, “physically and through social media,” at school and elsewhere by a group of teens, a Grafton police statement issued Friday on Facebook.

The officers investigated the mother’s claims, interviewing witnesses as well as finding evidence of harassment on Twitter and Facebook before determining they had probable cause for the seven arrests, Crepeau said.

On Raising the Debt Ceiling...

by: Les Carpenter
Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

Is anybody, and I mean ANYBODY in either party really serious about controlling the explosive rate of debt growth we have experienced since the 2008/2009 meltdown? I really think not.

Mitch McConnell talking to Chris Wallace about raising the debt ceiling.

Below the fold THINKPROGRESS weighs in. Content as expected from a far left publication.

Meanwhile, over at CBS and Bob Schieffer's FACEtheNATION Ted Cruz chimed in and actually made a bit of sense. Assuming of course he, and anyone else is really concerned with debt control or reduction.

BOB SCHIEFFER: Well, now, just a minute. Just a minute. The government is approaching another deadline February 7, when it will run out of money unless Congress agrees to raise the debt ceiling. Will you agree to raise the debt ceiling, or will you demand something in return.

SEN. TED CRUZ: Look, of course, we should do something. We shouldn't just write a blank check. Five years ago, the national debt was ten trillion dollars. That took 43 presidents over 200 years to build up ten trillion dollars in debt. Today, it's over 17 trillion dollars. It's grown nearly 70% with one president in five years.

And if you ask any American outside of Washington, "Should we just keep raising the debt ceiling while doing nothing, to have fundamental structural controls on spending to get Washington's spending problem under control," it doesn't matter if you're talking to a Republican, a Democrat, an independent, a libertarian.

Anyone outside of Washington says, "Of course." And it's worth noting in the past, the debt ceiling has been the most effective lever point for real structural reforms, whether it was Gramm-Rudman, which did a great job of restricting government spending, getting it under control or whether it was the Budget Control Act.

Both of those came through the debt ceiling. And what the president is saying is he just wants a blank credit card to keep growing and growing the debt, and I think that's irresponsible. I think it's irresponsible to our kids and grandkids to stick that debt on them because we can't live within our means.

We'll just have to wait and see. Both the dems and the repubs are certainly going to paint it in a way that makes their opposing party look bad. It is after American politics and these days the nation herdly ever seems to be the top priority. Of course there is lots more below the fold.

On a most telling note top Presidential advisers are telling the media and the people that the President will work with the Congress when he can but will do an end run around them if he must. Translation, the president will work with Congress when they agree with his agenda but will circumvent Congress when they don't agree with his agenda.

Nothing new there folks, and as noted above, really, no one is concerned about controlling the debt explosion much less in reducing the debt. Certainly not the President.

abcNEWS - President Barack Obama will work with Congress where he can and circumvent lawmakers where he must, his top advisers warned Sunday in previewing Tuesday's State of the Union speech.

Skip

"I think the way we have to think about this year is we have a divided government," said Dan Pfeiffer, a longtime Obama adviser. "The Republican Congress is not going to rubber-stamp the president's agenda. The president is not going to sign the Republican Congress' agenda."

Skip

"The president sees this as a year of action to work with Congress where he can and to bypass Congress where necessary," White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

"The president has sort of hung out on the left and tried to get what he wants through the bureaucracy as opposed to moving to the political center," said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the GOP Senate leader.

Added Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.: "It sounds vaguely like a threat, and I think it also has a certain amount of arrogance."
Sure seems like the battle lines have been drawn, again. It also sounds like the President is in the mood to try the Imperial Ruler route and he may actually try it this time as he and his advisers probably believe he has enough public support to pull it off. You know, to hell with the Constitution and all.

Anyway, there is more below the fold. One thing is certain, the SOTU Address should be interesting and the republican response even more so.

It is truly unfortunate that we exist in the political environment we do today where the interests of the parties and their agenda are continually put ahead of the greater interests of the Nation.
