Mall of America Officials Show Grinch Spirit After Man Throws His Last $1K At Black Friday Shoppers

Vorobyov who tossed $1K at Black Friday shoppers was arrested and cited for causing a disturbance by police after Mall of America officials thought it was an act that could have ended with someone getting hurt.

Bloomington, Minnesota - On Friday, Serge Vorobyov was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct by Bloomington police for tossing his last one thousand dollars at Black Friday Mall of America shoppers. Vorobyov who says, that he is going through hard times and just went through a bad divorce decided to go into the mall on Friday and toss $1K from a fourth floor into the ground level rotunda where a choir was singing "Let it Snow."
Mall of America (MOA) officials are now being labeled holiday "Grinches" by mall shoppers for over reacting and allowing police to cite Vorobyov for disturbing the peace after tossing money in the mall. A statement released by MOA to media outlets says, Vorobyov's act "could have caused a major disturbance and ended in someone getting hurt." No one was reported injured, but many people received some extra shopping cash from Vorobyov, according to police.
Did MOA over react instead of thanking Vorobyov for the publicity the mall received over the weekend?
Vorobyov posted a YouTube video explaining his intent and is now facing a citation for tossing money over the railing from the fourth floor of the MOA. He says, he didn't deserve a citation for disorderly conduct, since no one was injured. Vorobyov says, he is going through a messy divorce and just wanted to spread some holiday cheer and just tossed his last $1K when a choir was singing "Let it Snow."
Vorobyov in his YouTube statement says, "I went through a horrible divorce and she even took the cat and won't tell me where it is. I thought I would just spread some holiday cheer...pay it forward."
Shame on MOA for acting like Grinches this holiday season.
Should Vorobyov been arrested and cited for disorderly conduct for throwing his own money away to Black Friday shoppers at the MOA?

But for the first time in history, the OLG approached the winner instead of the other way around.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation have announced the winner of a $50 million Lotto Max prize that went unclaimed for a year.

But for the first time in history, the OLG approached the winner instead of the other way around.
Through a months-long investigation, the lottery corporation determined Hamilton resident Kathryn Jones was the rightful winner, after searching transaction history and security camera footage from a Shoppers Drug Mart in Cambridge.

“As you can imagine this has been both a very weird and wonderful journey,” Jones said at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Man Finds $98K in Desk Bought Off Craigslist
Since the announcement of the winning ticket on Nov. 30 of last year, 435 people inquired about the prize, but Jones never did.
A self-described “random” lottery player, Jones admits she lost the ticket and still has no idea where it is.
“I have obviously, as you can imagine, I have looked in my house very thoroughly and it’s not there.”
Jones, an engineer, said she has two children in university who are taking the news in stride.
“My oldest son lectured us on being responsible,” she said. “[He told us,] ‘I don’t care about the money I just want to get through these exams.’”

Previously, Jones had only won $20 through gaming. She said her family has no plans for the money yet.
Through the investigation, the OLG determined Jones purchased the only $16 ticket sold at the Shoppers Drug Mart location that day, and her answers were consistent with their questions regarding the purchase.
The corporation also conducted an independent review after learning Jones’ sister owns a retail outlet in Ottawa that sells lottery tickets.

“I feel very grateful . . . no one had to take that initiative [to find the winner],” she said.
As per their policy, the OLG will hold the prize for another 30 days to make sure no one else comes forward, although they are positive Jones is the rightful winner.

The largest unclaimed prize through the OLG prior to this was $5 million.

The “progressives”: Advancing un-American ideas for fun and profit

The “progressives”: Advancing un-American ideas for fun and profit

 Commentary by James H. Shott

They once called themselves “liberals,” but as practiced here in the U.S. through the years that word gathered lots of negative energy, casting adherents in a bad light, so they changed their moniker and now call themselves “progressives.”

But the term “progressives” is a misnomer, unless you consider it progress for America to slowly abandon the freedom that was once our hallmark, and move instead toward being more under the thumb of an increasingly over-reaching government.

To demonstrate how off-the-mark some progressives’ thinking is, consider the following:

On ESPN’s “Around the Horn,” a frequent guest named Kevin Blackistone said that football games should not include the singing of the national anthem during the pregame, calling the “Star-Spangled Banner” a “war anthem.”

Mr. Blackistone was addressing controversy over Northwestern University’s American flag-themed football uniforms, designed to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. In the “Buy or Sell” show segment he said he would “sell” the uniforms: “I'm going to sell it for the same reasons. If you sell this along with me, you should also be selling the rest of the military symbolism embrace of sports. Whether it’s the singing of a war anthem to open every game. Whether it’s going to get a hotdog and being able to sign up for the Army at the same time. Whether it’s the NFL's embrace of the mythology of the Pat Tillman story. It has been going on in sports since the first national anthem was played in the World Series back in 1917. And it’s time for people to back away.”

Mr. Blackistone clearly is a man who neither understands nor cares for America.

And this from Mary Margaret Penrose, a Texas A&M School of Law professor, who expressed her frustration with the fact that President Barack Obama has failed to pass more gun control since the crime at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Prof. Penrose said gun laws should be decided on a per-state basis, versus the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "The beauty of a states' rights model solution is it allows those of you who want to live in a state with very loose restrictions to do so." She went on to say that her problems with the Constitution are not limited to the Second Amendment, and advocates in her law courses redrafting the entire U.S. Constitution.

Is advocating abandoning the supreme law of the land acceptable in helping law students learn about and understand our system of laws?

More wisdom from the halls of academia comes from Professor Noel Ignatiev of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, who tells his students things like this: “If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a white male do? He’s good for nothing. Slavery, genocides against aboriginal peoples and massive land confiscation, the inquisition, the holocaust, white males are all to blame! You maintain your white male privilege only by oppressing, discriminating against and enslaving others.” He suggests that all white males should commit suicide.

Two thoughts arise from this; first, we should enthusiastically applaud the professor’s recent decision to stop “teaching,” and second, since he is a white male, ask why he is still alive and see if he will continue to be a hypocrite, or if he will follow his own advice.

Not to be outdone in the expression of un-American ideas, The Washington Post had its own expert academic opinion from Jonathan Zimmerman, who professes history and education at New York University.

“Barack Obama should be allowed to stand for re-election just as citizens should be allowed to vote for — or against — him,” he wrote. “Anything less diminishes our leaders and ourselves.”

The professor must have missed that part of his history education when Congress proposed an amendment to the Constitution to limit the president to two four-year terms, and why it did so. The 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951, following FDR’s election to four terms, having been approved by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states. It prevented the likely possibility of a “president for life” evolving and creating a situation like the one the Colonies suffered under that led to armed revolt. A “president for life” is not unlike a monarch.

Maybe he thinks monarchy is superior to the form of government the Founders created, the obligation of which was to guarantee basic freedoms to the people it was created to serve. If it’s oppression he wants, there are many countries to which he can relocate.

A major feature of progressivism is to limit the liberties our ancestors fought and died for in the naïve hope of creating a perfect society. Over the last century or so they have chipped away enough of the protections and guarantees that the system doesn’t work as it was designed to, and their solution is to continue to destroy it, rather than to restore it.

Is US Military Readiness Being Compromised? ... J. D. Longstreet

Is US Military Readiness Being Compromised?
Obama's Purge of the US Military
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

*******************

More and more Americans are beginning to worry that America's military is in decline.  Veterans of the military forces, especially, worry as they have seen the evidence of a lack of readiness by simply comparing the state of readiness of their branch of the military during their time of service and the state of readiness today in that same branch of the US Military.

It is a topic the government does not want to discuss in public.  That is understandable.  However, it needs attention and it needs attention NOW.

The House Armed Services Committee chairman, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Calif., said recently:  "You'd better hope we never have a war again."  It would seem he, too, is concerned over what he perceives as the decline in what the military calls its readiness.

There can be no doubt that recent budget cuts have hurt the US military.  The cuts were made against the warnings of top brass at the Pentagon and by military experts.  More cuts are in the pipeline.

How bad has readiness suffered?  Well, that's classified.  But we are able to pick up a snippet here and there that allows us to peek behind the curtain for an instant.

From a report on ABCnews.com we learn:  "... an Air Force official says they've grounded 13 combat fighter/bomber squadrons or about a third of those active duty units. And the Army says only two of its 35 active-duty brigades are fully ready for major combat operations."  SOURCE:   http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/worry-us-military-ready-21046785

Just for your information -- a brigade is made up (usually) of approximately 3,500 to 5,500 troops.   So the figures above become even more frightening when we realize that we have roughly 160,000 active duty combat troops in those 35 brigades -- BUT -- we only have less than ten thousand active duty combat troops ready to fight -- right now!

Yeah, I know that is JUST the Army and does not include the Reserves, the Marines, and the Navy. Still, it IS eye-opening and frightening.

Budget cuts have curtailed training, especially for the US Army and it is beginning to show.

Consider this:  "U.S. General Ray Odierno, U.S. Army chief of staff, has said that budget cuts and fiscal uncertainty in the United States have led to sharp reductions in army training.

In comments on October 21 at a conference of the Association of the U.S. Army, Odierno said currently only two brigades of troops are fully trained and combat ready.

"We had to stop training, basically, in the last six months of the [fiscal] year," Odierno said.

A combat brigade has between 3,500 and 5,000 troops. The U.S. Army currently has some 570,000 uniformed personnel.

Under current plans approved by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel during the summer, that figure could be reduced as low as 420,000.

Odierno also said budget woes are affecting equipment purchases and the army currently needs a new armored fighting vehicle and new helicopters."
  SOURCE:  http://www.rferl.org/content/article/25143880.html

Look. The US military is reeling from $800 billion in defense cuts over the next ten years  and now, we learn, they are faced with $500 billion MORE in budget cuts since sequestration has kicked in.

The Obama administration’s military budget cuts are being made when global tension and instability are spiraling up.  The Middle East is a time bomb set to explode at any moment.  As I write China and Japan are at something of a stand off over disputed ownership of a few small islands claimed by both.  The US is pledged to fight for Japan should this glaring contest suddenly go hot and bullets begin to fly.

How bad is it?  As we said above that is classified, but consider what Retired Adm. James A. Lyons former Commander - in - Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and senior U.S. military representative to the United Nations had to say back in October 2013 in an article published by the Washington Times:  "All this means that we will have the smallest Army since prior to World War II. The Navy, with its anemic shipbuilding program, will most likely be left with the smallest fleet since prior to World War I. The U.S. Air Force will suffer a similar adverse impact. Selected aircraft squadrons from both the Air Force and the Navy have been ordered to stand down and not fly. It will take several months to restore their readiness.
Symbolic of the Navy’s demise are the five aircraft carriers that are currently moored at piers at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia for lack of operating and overhaul funds. Clearly, with the escalating civil war in Syria, one carrier battle group should be immediately deployed to the Mediterranean. Such a deployment would dramatically change the strategic equation and counter Russia’s deployment of 11 ships currently there." The budget cuts have done a number on the US military.  Adding to the military's problems though, is the social engineering the left has forced upon our fighting forces.  Unit cohesion is evaporating with homosexuals serving openly now and, with women in combat roles, sexual assaults are sky rocketing.

Some are wondering if we have entirely to many politician soldiers, parade ground officers, instead of fighting generals in positions of power in the upper echelons of the US military.

And there are those who suspect Obama is purging the military of generals and admirals who place their oath to protect the Constitution before allegiance to him.

Consider this:  "Retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin, who was with Delta Force and later Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence under President George W. Bush, says it is worrying that four-star generals are being retired at the rate that has occurred under Obama.

“Over the past three years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause,” Boykin said.

Boykin went on to say:  “I believe there is a purging of the military,” he said. “The problem is worse than we have ever seen.”

Boykin referred to recent reports that Obama has purged some 197 officers in the past five years."
  SOURCE:  http://www.wnd.com/2013/10/top-generals-obama-is-purging-the-military/#zjus8xYFUc2EzwEZ.99

One could argue that Obama is only following his Marxist philosophy and copying Joseph Stalin's purge of the Soviet military in 1941.  That purge by Stalin was to consolidate his power.  One would be hard pressed NOT to think Mr. Obama might be motivated by the same motivating principle as Stalin.  Stalin wanted a military that answered only to him -- and him alone.

We cannot allow any President to create a Praetorian Guard of our military.

There has never been an attempted coup by the US military.  How do I know?  Because had there been -- it would have been successful.  They have shown remarkable restraint over the past nearly two-and-half centuries.  But today there is restlessness in the ranks -- both upper and lower.

The US military, the Army, the Navy, Marines, the Air Force, the Coast Guard,  and all the Reserve forces need our help.  The least we can do is contact our Congressperson and demand that they investigate and get to the bottom of Obama's purge of the military and restore the necessary funds to rebuild our military and finally, Congress should repeal, or in some other way, remove homosexuals from serving openly in the US military and remove women from combat roles in all the services.

The US military has defended America for 250 years, or so.  Don't you think it's about time we Americans came to the defense of our troops?

Yarrington Ruvalcaba, Former Tamaulipas Governor Indicted For Money Laundering And Bank Fraud

Tomas Jesus Yarrington Ruvalcaba and Fernando Alejandro Cano Martinez

U.S. federal authorities are seeking information on the whereabouts of both Ruvalcaba and Martinez who were indicted for conspiracy to defraud banks and money laundering.

By H. Nelson Goodson
December 2, 2013

Brownsville, Texas - On Monday,  U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of Texas unsealed an indictment charging both Tomas Jesus Yarrington Ruvalcaba, 56, a former Tamaulipas governor and his associate Fernando Alejandro Cano Martinez, 57, from the City of Juarez, Tamaulipas with conspiracy to defraud banks and money laundering. The indictment charges Ruvalcaba and Martinez, the owner of Materiales y Construcciones Villa de Aguayo, S.A. de C.V., a Mexican construction firm, with conspiring to violate the provisions of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) statute. The two men are also charged with conspiracy to launder money, conspiracy to defraud, and conspiracy to make false statements to federally insured U.S. banks.
Ruvalcaba is also separately charged with a conspiracy to violate the provisions of the Controlled Substances Act, two substantive bank fraud charges, and a conspiracy to structure currency transactions at a domestic financial institution, while Martinez is separately charged with three counts of bank fraud.
In May 2012, a previous indictment states that Ruvalcaba began to accept bribes from drug traffickers in 1998. Martinez conspired to created a variety of corporate entities in the U.S. to launder money paid by the Gulf Cartel to corrupt high level public elected Mexican officials and candidates for public office in Tamaulipas.
"Millions worth of assets, primarily in Texas real estate were aquired in the scheme. Martinez is also accused of conspiracy to commit bank fraud. According to the indictment, Martinez and others also engaged in a separate conspiracy in the acquisition of loans from financial institutions by submitting false financial information to the banks in order to obtain the loans.
"At the same time the indictment against Martinez was returned, civil actions were filed by United States Attorney's Offices in the Southern and Western Districts of Texas. In Corpus Christi, Texas, a civil complaint was filed regarding real estate property allegedly owned by Ruvalcaba. Ruvalcaba was the former mayor of Matamoros, former governor of Tamaulipas from 1999 to 2004 and a former presidential candidate for Mexico. In the complaint, it is alleged that Ruvalcaba used illicit proceeds to purchase a condominium located in South Padre Island, Texas, using a third party to conduct the $450,000 transaction and hold title.
"In San Antonio, the United States Attorney's Office is filing a civil action regarding a single property, purchased in 2006 for approximately $6.6 million, that was allegedly obtained with illicit funds by Ruvalcaba, Martinez and others," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of Texas.
Ruvalcaba also allegedly smuggled cocaine into the U.S. from 2007 to 2009. If convicted, Ruvalcaba is facing up to 20 years in prison for money laundering, 30 years for bank fraud and 10 years for the drug charge.
Martinez, if convicted of three counts for bank fraud is facing up to 30 years in prison for each count, 20 years for money laundering and a money judgement of $20M for each count and forfeiture of assets, including an airplane and bank acounts.

Former Rio Grande City Police Sargeant Charged For Molesting Minors

Rodolfo Hinojosa

Hinojosa resigned late last month after allegations surfaced of sexually assaulting two minors.

By H. Nelson Goodson
December 2, 2013

Rio Grande City, Texas - On early Tuesday, former Rio Grande City (RGC) Police Sargeant Rodolfo Hinojosa, 28, surrendered to the Starr County Sheriff's Office after a judge issued a felony warrant for his arrest for molesting several minors. Hinojosa was booked and charged with two felony counts of sexual assault in connection with having sexual contact with two under age girls, according to the criminal complaint.
Starr County authorities began investigating Hinojosa after sexual assault allegations were reported to authorities about a month ago. Hinojosa was an 7-year veteran with the RGC Police Department.
A judge set a bail bond of $200,000 for Hinojosa. He remains in custody, according to the Starr County District Attorney's office.

holiday pushers

We are officially in the thick of it people. Thanksgiving is behind us (in the US), Chanukah is wrapping up and Christmas is coming. Cue the hysteria. I made an effort to not get online over the Thanksgiving holiday, not even my phone, and it was kind of like a digital master cleanse. It felt damn good I have to say and when we got home last night from a weekend of traveling and I was ready to gear up for Christmas. I didn't feel behind or stressed, I just felt...holiday-ish.

Then I sat down to my laptop and the stress settled in. Holy crap. I've gotten a wicked number of emails and articles and announcements telling me I can get 15% off here, 50% off there, use these coupon codes on these days, and jump three times in place while drinking water and tapping your head. And that doesn't even crack the book on all of the gift guides. Oy! I am on overload already and it is only December 2nd.

Jane Means

How do you manage all your holiday cheer? Do you keep up with all of the 'advice' or just go with what you know? What % lures you in to a sale? (I got an email for 7% off and let me tell you, that is NOT a sale. That's just foolish)

Black Friday Weekend Spending Drop Pressures U.S. Stores

The first spending decline on a Black Friday weekend since 2009 reinforced projections for a lackluster holiday, increasing chances retailers will extend the deep discounts already hurting their profit margins.

We seem to be coming in a bit shy of Accenture's prediction of an 11% increase so far. Who could have seen that coming? Unfortunately, that is not the scariest quote of the article.

This year, 65 percent of Americans said they were living paycheck to paycheck, up from 61 percent last year, in part because their purchasing power has been eroded by higher costs, according to research from Booz.

We are so @#$%ed.

America's Socialist Government ... J. D. Longstreet

America's Socialist Government ... J. D. Longstreet
America's Socialist Government
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

****************

Norman Thomas, the six-time Socialist Party candidate for U.S. President, said the following in a 1944 speech: (69 years ago!)

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.... I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Like a charade the socialists in America's government hide behind the name "democrat."  That camouflage has worked well since the mid 1940's.  It continues to work with lo/info voters of which America has more than her share.

Today, America has a Socialist/Marxist/Communist President. One half of the Congress, the Senate, is controlled by Socialist/Marxist/Communists. Arguably, the US Supreme Court has already been compromised by the "New" Left/Liberals/Socialists/Communists.  One cannot argue the New Left has not had rather a lot of success!  They most certainly have.

Look around America today.  She is hardly recognizable as the country she used to be,  a country dedicated to a constitution that defends liberty, defends freedom for the individual, and limits government intrusion into the lives of its citizens.  That's all gone now.

Today's America is but a shell of its former self.  It is, today, ruled by semi-literate inhabitants of a sub-culture bought and paid for -- by the socialists -- to overpower their opponents by the sheer force of their numbers at the ballot box.

How did this happen?

Free stuff, that's howRedistribution of the wealth.  Put even more simply:  The government takes taxpayer money from productive citizens and gives it to the unproductive "wards of the government" to buy their votes at election time.

Redistribution of the wealth is the foundation of socialism.  Once established, as it is today in America, it is next to impossible to reverse short of a total collapse of the government  -- or revolution.

The gulf between conservatives and socialists is far to wide to be bridged.  The dogma of both is so vastly different that a grafting of the two is impossible.  Therefore, we have the "logjam" or "gridlock" in Congress today.

Understand, dear reader,  there will be little, if any, bipartisanship in the Congress between Socialist/Marxist/Communist on the left and freedom loving Americans on the right.  To compromise with those who constitute the political left in America today is to compromise the freedom and liberty of every American. That cannot be allowed to happen.

Just so I am clear -- when I refer to liberals today and "the Left" today, I am referring to the Socialists/Marxists/Communists who make up the modern Democratic Party and NOT the REAL LIBERALS of which extremely few are left in America's government today.

Just days ago we remembered the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  I noted in a commentary at the time that I was not a fan of JFK.  In 2010 an article appeared in the Wall Street Journal that will shed some light on my dislike of JFK's Administration.

"The Fall of The House of Kennedy," was written by Daniel Henninger.  Mr. Henninger wrote the following:  "In 1962, President John F. Kennedy planted the seeds that grew the modern Democratic Party. That year, JFK signed executive order 10988 allowing the unionization of the federal work force. This changed everything in the American political system. Kennedy's order swung open the door for the inexorable rise of a unionized public work force in many states and cities.

This in turn led to the fantastic growth in membership of the public employee unions—The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the teachers' National Education Association.

They broke the public's bank. More than that, they entrenched a system of taking money from members' dues and spending it on political campaigns. Over time, this transformed the Democratic Party into a public-sector dependency.

They became different than the party of FDR, Truman, Meany and Reuther. That party was allied with the fading industrial unions, which in turn were tethered to a real world of profit and loss.

The states in the North and on the coasts turned blue because blue is the color of the public-sector unions. This tax-and-spend milieu became the training ground for their politicians."   Source:   http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052748704320104575015010515688120

Why does JFK's action irk me so much?  Consider this from an article entitled  "Unions: The History of Their Socialist Agenda!" by Dr. Keith C. Westbrook Ph.D. and published at redstate.com:  "The Labor union movement has always been led by Socialist’s advocating the communist doctrine, the list of prominent leaders in the union movement is littered with their philosophies."  You may read the entire article at:  http://www.redstate.com/kcjw33/2011/03/11/unions-the-history-of-their-socialist-agenda/

In an article at forbes.com, Peter Ferrara says the following:  "So why does President Obama keep saying that the rich do not pay their fair share?  Is he ignorant?  Wouldn’t somebody in his Administration whisper to him that he is peddling nonsense?

The answer is that to President Obama this is still not fair because he is a Marxist.  To a Marxist, the fact that the top 1% earn more income than the bottom 99% is not fair, no matter how they earn it, fairly or not.  So it is not fair unless more is taken from the top 1% until they are left only with what they “need,” as in any true communist system."

The thing that frightens me more than our socialist government is this:  The American people seem to be embracing socialism.  No matter that socialism has been proven to fail in every society and every country that has tried it to date.  No matter that it enslaves entire populations and transforms them into automatons for the state. No matter that it turns their formally free country into a huge prison. Some will argue that America, itself, is already  one huge prison with American citizens being watched, and listened to, and tracked 24 hours a day -- just as prisoners in federal prisons.

If you want those tiny little hairs on the back of your neck to stand up read "32 Privacy Destroying Technologies That Are Systematically Transforming America Into A Giant Prison" by Michael Snyder at: http://thetruthwins.com/archives/32-privacy-destroying-technologies-that-are-systematically-transforming-america-into-a-giant-prison

We have very little time before it will truly be too late. America will have passed the point of no return.  We are very nearly there today.

There was a time when I thought America could withstand anything.  No longer.  After witnessing America go from the world's foremost superpower to a banana republic in less than four years,  I am now convinced that she is bound for the dustbin of history to take her place with all the former great empires that also committed suicide.

I desperately hope I am wrong, but I don't sense the "will" to fight back, to fight for our freedom, among today's American citizens.

Understand, dear reader, if we don't have the will to take the bit in our teeth and free our country from the yoke of socialism, then we don't deserve that which our forefathers fought, bled, and died to win -- and to preserve for us.

Student Reporter Sexually Assaulted And Arrested By Mexico, D.F. Police During 1-year Protest Of Nieto's Administration

Alejandra Natalia Rodríguez Escobar

Female reporter from La Jornada was also assaulted by police for video taping Escobar's arrest in Mexico, D.F.

Mexico, D.F. - On Sunday, Somos el Medio dot org. reported that Mexican police arrested Alejandra Natalia Rodríguez Escobar, 21, a student reporter for Somos el Medio, a digital news source while attempting to cover the 1-year march and protest of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto's government. A large event composed of a march and protest began earlier today to commemorate last year's manisfestations after Nieto was elected.
A confrontation ignited between large groups of young people with their faces covered and granaderos (grain workers). The protesters also threw rocks at the Televisa Chapultepec installation and damaged a police van. Some teenagers painted graffiti around the area as they went through as police formed lines to maintain control and limit the spread of violence by the protesters.
Also in some subway stations near the protests, authorities took measures and closed their metal gates to prevent the protesters from going into the subway areas.
Escobar apparently was covering today's events when she was illegally stopped, beaten, inappropriately touched (sexually assaulted), searched and taken into custody by Mexico, D.F. police, according to Rogelio Velázquez, a reporter for La Revista Contralinea. Velázquez accompanied Escobar at the time of her arrest and witnessed her assault and detention. She was then forced into a police squad number 7539, Velázquez said.
Another reporter, Tania Maldonado, from La Jornada says, a police officer struck her cellphone with a baton while recording Escobar getting assaulted and being taken into custody.
Escobar was taken to the Territorial Coordination Processing Center in Miguel Hidalgo Number 1. A judge will determine, if police have enough evidence that Escobar committed an illegal act while reporting.
A member for the Federal District Human Rights Commission accompanied Escobar during her arrest, Somos el Medio dot org. reported.

Obama Administration Declares That It Has Met Its Goal Of ObamaCare Site Improvement...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

I guess the one good thing about being really really bad is any improvement is hailed as success.

Forgive me if you will, but after the three years plus it apparently required to create a broken website (ACA of course), expecting us to believe that after only a month the myriad of problematical issues have been resolved and the ObamaCare website has now achieved the administrations goals is a bit much.

Right. We believed if we liked out healthcare we could keep our health care. Turns out such such was not true. Like I said, forgive me for being the skeptic. Maybe after six months without the site crashing and millions of positive reports have poured, then, and only then, it will be time to become "a believer." Not that I will ever believe ObamaCare is necessarily a good or even adequate healthcare system. Forget about affordable, unless you qualify for the low income government subsidies.

BUSINESS INSIDER - The Obama administration is out with a progress report on HealthCare.gov, the federal health care website that it pledged in late October would be fixed for the "vast majority" of users by Nov. 30.

The report declares that it has "met" that goal, two months after the disastrous launch of the website.

"While we strive to innovate and improve our outreach and systems for reaching consumers, we believe we have met the goal of having a system that will work smoothly for the vast majority of users," the progress report says.

Some key points from the report:

  • The site will now be able to support a maximum of 800,000 visitors per day, including a target of 50,000 concurrent visits.
  • The site is now online 90% of the time, according to the The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  • The "tech surge" that came to the site in late October has helped to fix 400-plus bugs and glitches on a "punch list."
  • The average response time of the site is now less than one second, an improvement from about 8 seconds in late October.

View the progress charts.

Truth will be in the report(s) yet to be made down the road a ways. Months, years, and even decades down the road.

Undocumented Inmate Bites Penis And Fatally Strangled McNaughton To Remain In U.S.

Roberto Venegas Fernández and Michael Patrick McNaughton

Fernández an undocumented inmate didn't want to be deported, so he killed a cellmate to remain in a U.S. prison.

Florence, Arizona - Roberto Venegas Fernández, 43, a Mexican national is facing a felony charged for first-degree intentional murder for the November 16, brutal homicide of his cellmate, Michael Patrick McNaughton, 55, of San Diego, CA at the Florence Correctional Center run by the Corrections Corporation of America, a private prison contracted by the U.S. Marshals Service in Arizona to hold federal prisoners. Fernández admitted to Pinal County Sheriff's Office investigators of fatally choking, stomping on the victim's head and taking a bite at McNaughton's penis to make sure he would be charged with murder.
Fernández told homicide investigators that he killed McNaughton, so he could remain in a U.S. prison instead of getting deported back to Mexico. He was about to be release from custody after serving eight years and had a fear of being deported back to Mexico.
Fernández was convicted of reentering the U.S., a sex related charge and sentenced to eight years in prison. He was deported from the U.S. on January 26, 1989.
McNaughton was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison after being convicted for having child pornography images in his home computer. McNaughton pleaded guilty to the pornography charges, according to court records.
The U.S. Marshals Service transported both Fernández and McNaughton to the private prison a day before the murder. They were awaiting transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons system.

5-Year Treasuries vs. 10-Year Treasuries

The herd sure loves the current 1.37% 5-year treasury compared to the 2.75% 10-year treasury. Good luck on that one.

Perhaps the herd is right though. Perhaps interest rates will be north of 4% on the 10-year in 5 years as the economy continues to "recover". We can all hope and dream. Right? Okay, maybe not all. The Japanese would clearly be harder to convince. They've had more time to watch what ZIRP can do to an economy over the long-term. Sigh.

FRB: Why are interest rates being kept at a low level?

Low interest rates help households and businesses finance new spending and help support the prices of many other assets, such as stocks and houses.

Most Americans love higher shelter costs. It's a fact. And let's not forget about higher priced tuition. Who doesn't love that? The more financing the better! Here's the best part. These low interest rates have not boosted the price of gasoline. It's just a coincidence that gasoline prices have tripled over the last decade or so. Can't hold the Fed responsible for that. They have no control over it at all.

Bernanke: The Fed 'Can't Do Much About The Price Of Gas'

In Congressional testimony, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told legislators the Fed “can’t do much about the price of gas,” after lashing out at those that criticize him for “hurting” the dollar.

Let me summarize.

Good asset prices rising: You can thank the Fed!
Bad asset prices rising: You can't blame the Fed!

Good asset prices falling: You can't blame the Fed!
Bad asset prices falling: You can thank the Fed!

The funny thing is that gasoline prices stopped going up. It's almost like the global economy is too weak to support high priced gasoline. Go figure.

So how exactly is the Fed going to generate consumer price inflation going forward if gasoline prices can't rise further and WalMart sells 32" flat screen televisions for $98? It's a puzzling conundrum of an enigma wrapped up in a mystery.

This is not investment advice.

Black Friday Quote of the Year

Black Friday Quote of the Year

Black Friday live: Dummy holds shopper's place, cops say man shot over TV

Police Lt. David Gordon says the victim was carrying the TV at an apartment complex near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas when someone fired warning shots, prompting him to drop the appliance. Gordon says the robber snatched the TV and took it to a vehicle, and the victim tried to wrestle it back. That's when the robber fired shots and hit the victim in the leg.

Is that the quote of the year? No. Brace for it though. Here it comes!

It's unclear what happened to the TV.

WTF! How can they just leave us dangling like that? Is the television okay or isn't it? We know it was dropped. We know that there was some wrestling going on after that. We know it was taken away in a vehicle by a man with a gun. It just doesn't look good at all! What if the television is dead? If there isn't a ransom demand within the next 72 hours I'm going to start assuming the worst!

Let us hope and pray that the television is okay and will be reunited with its one true owner. Just think how much sentimental value was built up in their brief time together. It's like losing a baby, really. That's what makes Black Friday so special: so many people, so many solid gold babies.

What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know. - Jack Handey
