Employment Mass Extinction Events

Those not in the labor force have grown nearly 3.2 million over the past year, with nearly 1 million in just the past month.

There was a major long-term trend shift starting in 2000. The Fed didn't like the old normal in red so it offered us up a housing bubble and in its aftermath a new normal in blue. It's a bit hard to tell the two normals apart in the chart. Well, you kind of can. The new normal is a bit steeper. It's probably trying to make up for lost can kicking ground. Oh the futility! Unintended consequences for the win!

Note that the Great Recession also created a major long-term trend shift in those dropping out of the labor force permanently more than likely. One wonders if there will be more employment mass extinction events in the not too distant future. One especially wonders that if all this current can kicking is no more permanent than the last time.

As President Obama Continues His Slide In Public Opinion...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA
Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Polls are admittedly mere indicators of the political pulse of the public. It is true arguments can be made that depending on the political preference(s), or leanings of the particular organization responsible for any specific poll that the poll may be manipulated through specific wording of poll questions. Questions intentionally designed to generate the response desired by the pollster. Few thinking individual would disagree.

President Obama's job approval ratings have been steadily declining and almost all polls reflect this decline. After considering multiple sources of information over a two week period Pew Research, Center for the People the Press seemed to be the most nonpartisan and thus reflective of the public's general sentiments.

A quick summary:
    • Overall job approval rating  41%
    • Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling four of five major issues. Terrorism being the lone exception.
    • Only 31% of Americans approve of the way Obama has handled the economy, 65% disapprove.
    • 21% of independents give Obama positive marks on the economy, 65% of democrats approve. (No surprise there)
    • Obama health care rating is a net negtive. 37% approve, 59% didapprove.
    • Only 32% of the public aprove of the job Obama s doing on the immigration issue. 53% of democrats approve and  42% disapprove.
    • Obama's job approval ratings have declined from 515 in May this year to 46% in July, 43% in October, and 41% now.
    • Obama's 12-point difference between disapproval (53%) and approval (41%) over the last month is the largest of his presidency.
    • Over the past year Obama's job approval ratings among his core supportyers has dropped from 88% to 78%. Republican aproval ratings have remained at just 12% over the sae time period.

Partisan democrats while showing a decline in support for the president his core constituency remains solidly behind him. Republican support remains, as expected, at near sub zero temperatures.

The Charts:

It is clear that partisanship remains a factor in the public's perception of the President's performance and effectiveness. It is equally as clear that those who typically are less or non partisan are souring on the President's performance. These are the swing voters who may very well affect the outcome of the 2014 and 2016 elections. If the trend continues it may be a steep uphill battle for the democrats to even retain control of the senate.

Los Angeles police arrested more than 50 people outside a Chinatown Wal-Mart store for wage dispute.

November 8, 2013

Los Angeles, CA - On Thursday, police arrested at least 54 wage protesters including Wal-Mart employees, teachers and nurses in front of a newly opened Chinatown Wal-Mart store. More than 200 people participated in a major protest targeting alleged unfair employment practices and low wages by Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has an estimated 13,000 employees nationwide.
The protesters staged a sit-in on the street and when police asked them to disperse, the protesters refused. They were arrested for unlawful
The detained portesters who couldn't post a $500 bail were held overnight, according to police.
The wage protest was organized by the Los Angeles County Federation of Workers, AFL-CIO union, which is demanding better wages for Wal-Mart workers. Organizers said, the protest was organized to draw attention to the inequality wage earnings at Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart spokesperson Kory Lundberg says that there are virtually no Wal-Mart associates participating in such orchestrated events because they know the truth about working at Wal-Mart, according to Reuters.
Last month, Wal-Mart began helping their employees in other parts of the country to apply for federal food stamps as a result of low wages earned. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP) also known as the Food Stamp program offers millions of low-income families with their nutritional needs.
Wal-Mart is currently preparing for the holiday season, which starts during Thanksgiving.

Awakening of American minds

Awakening of American minds

Awakening of American minds

For the last five years Americans have been asleep. As we slumbered Democracy was being supplanted by forces unfriendly to it. The very strength of our nation drained away as the blood of socialism was being transfused into our institutions, industries and classrooms. Many of us, who saw the changes coming, were ignored, became banter of late night talk shows or found our words squelched by left-wing media outlets. Five years later the laughs have stopped giving way to the concerns that America’s transition is detrimental to all political persuasions. United States is now managed by a group that believes it can pick and choose which laws it will follow. Justice is meted out by those with a skewed view of the Constitution. Laws have become weapons in their hands to move narrow agendas forward which benefit only a few. A formerly strong and conscientious nation appears foolish on the World stage. Barack Obama leads from behind. His hesitations, lack of transparency and indecisions have defined him as less of a leader and more of a follower, who takes his cues from the social deviants in which he keeps company. America’s re-fabrication has redefined the essence of this nation. Be the best you can be has been replaced with give as much as you can and as often as you can to those who do not want to contribute to the collective. Be dependent is the theme from the White House. Individuals who succeed on their own are an anathema to those who move up the food chain on the backs of others. Any attempt to change the dependency apparatus in the nation’s capital is met with an array of disarming statements such as: poor children will starve or the elderly will be put out in the streets. None of it true, yet it keeps the gravy flowing to a population that knows how to cajole politicians to keep the entitlement faucet open. The half of America which has awakened to its own plight realized omens of failure were apparent throughout the country. Massive student loan debt, trillions promised to public pension plans, an untenable mortgage market backed with dwindling government coffers and a million unfulfilled promises by politicians are the seeds which will sink this nation fiscally. Great leaders rise up from the murk every so often, our President in not one of them. In the event Congress performed the task of governing appropriately, Barack Obama would have heard the gavel of impeachment by now. Instead he continues to party and deride the country as though tomorrow may never come. Perhaps he knows something the rest of us don’t. J.C. Penney reports first monthly sales increase since 2011

J.C. Penney Co. said Thursday that a 0.9 percent increase in October same-store sales, its first year-over-year monthly increase in almost two years, signals “meaningful progress in its turnaround.”

0.9 percent is almost exactly what apparel inflation has done over the past year. Way to go JC Penney! Very impressive!

The increase in sales wasn’t due to more customers or higher prices; Penney reported that store traffic and per-item prices were still down from a year ago.

Probably best if existing JC Penney employees did not demand a raise at the present time. Just sayin'.

But profitability took a hit from all the clearance merchandise and the chain’s aggressive return to coupons and discounts.

We're certainly getting an early start this year. This economy's poised for clearance! Everything must go!

Speaking of demanding a raise...

Washington city votes to raise minimum wage to $15

The SeaTac initiative will raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour for hospitality and transportation workers in and near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The current minimum wage in Washington State is $9.19.

This measure was strongly supported by SeaTac's many, many hospitality and transportation workers. Go figure. I'm just a bit surprised that it was only a 63% increase. Surely people willing to vote themselves $15 per hour would also be willing to accept $18.38. Double or nothing next time!

Where is the frickin' Free Maple Donut Fridays ballot measure? Do I have to do everything myself? Surely it would be popular! Who doesn't love free stuff! Every business should be required to provide free maple donuts to anyone who asks, but only on Fridays. No need to be greedy here.

The naysayers may insist that there may be a few unintended consequences. Some may wish to hoard a week's worth of donuts every Friday. Free donuts for life? Others may not trust that the measure would stay in effect forever and hoard even more than a week's worth at a time. Are those really problems though? Think of the increased freezer sales adding to GDP!

And what about the increased energy usage? Not a problem! Free Electricity Mondays! Coming soon to a ballot near you! Exponentially increasing unintended consequences offer exponentially increasing intended solutions! We just need to stay on top of them and manage this economy from crisis to crisis, just like we have been doing!

U-Haul Rate Analysis - Americans on the Move

NOTE TO READERS: In an effort to reach people in these times of NO attention span I am developing a series of very short videos that focus on the concept of Supply and Demand to illustrate the flight (migration) from high taxes and stifling regulations of key liberal centers. Regions known to be hostile to small free enterprise.  (The videos are amateurish due to the fact that I am an amateur. I'm working on that).

The Law of Supply and Demand makes for a compelling argument that people are on the move away from liberal decay. That is to say according to my research people are  fleeing the high cost,  high taxed,  excessively regulated and highly liberal regions of Northern New Jersey, Chicago and San Francisco.

For almost a year now I have performed a simple, non-scientific study of the rate differences between coming and going between Northern New Jersey, Chicago and San Francisco and Austin Texas.  Last month I expanded the study to include rates between San Francisco, Portland, Boise and Chicago.

I publish these results on video and post them to youtube in the hopes that the video will be shared with young people that will "get it" when they see the numbers. I encourage students to ask their teachers to explain the results. I think many young kids, especially the youngest in grade school, know something is dreadfully wrong in America and this simple concept can trigger an epiphany in them.  Then they may begin to question things they are being taught when teachers can't or won't explain these results.

Below is an overview look at the most recent numbers before I get to producing the next video.

Both San Francisco and New Jersey had increases in out migration. Especially New Jersey (Ouch).

Input on my process or anecdotal details are welcomed.

FYI - I am in the vacation and entertainment promotion business and I promote conservative "Free Enterprise " centric travel destinations over left wing "crony" communities that often develop from the mis-use of Transient Occupancy Taxes (a.k.a. Hotel Room Tax). A tax system that often poisons travel communities and destroys jobs I point to South Lake Tahoe, CA as an example.  Anyone with information or insights into Hotel Room Tax I'd be interested in hearing from you.

To illustrate the impact of centralized government control on society my plans are to write more about the Transient Occupancy Tax, detail how I have seen it undermine communities and add to the corruption of crony capitalism. Communities like South Lake Tahoe, which I see as a poster child for failure.

The fund is presently waiting to be remitted from London in The United Kingdom to any overseas beneficiary confirmed by me as associate/receiver. By virtue of my political position, I cannot acquire this money with my name. For this reason I took it upon myself to look for an overseas silent partner who could work with me to facilitate transfer of this fund for our mutual benefit, hence the reason for this message. You will be free to take out your commission immediately after the money hits your country. Since my objective is to invest the money in a foreign country, it would be appreciated if you could also help me with advice and direction on investing into profitable/lucrative ventures in your country for an additional 5%. However, this is optional, and if it is not convenient for you to further assist us with investing the money, we can end our cooperation after you make available to us our part of the money.

The transaction, although discrete, is legitimate and the money will be transferred successfully with all necessary back-up documents showing legitimate source/origin of fund. Sit-in At Congressman McCarthy's Bakersfield Office Ends

McCarthy meets with the women who held a sit-in for 10 hours on Wednesday at his Bakersfield office.

By H. Nelson Goodson
November 7, 2013

Bakersfield, CA - On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy (R) finally met with a group of women who had a sit-in for most of the day at his Bakersfield office. McCarthy, the majority leader of the House met with the women before midnight to discuss the current immigration reform bill, which is being held back from a vote on the U.S. House floor.
McCarthy along with his wife and an aid met with the women at his office. The 13 women had a sit-in for 10 hours at McCarthy's office. He met with the women for an hour just after 11:00 p.m. and after listening to them, he indicated that he was "serious about solving the problem," according to the United Farm Workers organization (UFW). He gave no commitment that he will allow an immigration reform bill to reach the House floor for a vote before 2013 ends.
McCarthy confirmed that he would support a just immigration bill for 2014 and is supporting a DREAMer bill (KIDS Act), but passing a bill for this year was unlikely with 13 days left in the 113th first session of the House. With McCarthy's response to the women, it indicates any hope of passing a bill this year is dead.
Also depending on the upcoming elections and the outcome of who maintains control of the House and U.S. Senate, it would be unlikely a bill will pass in the next 6 years.
The women were locked inside McCarthy's office without food or water until the congressman arrived.

The following women took part in a 10 hour sit-in at Congressman McCarthy's office in Bakersfield. The group couldn't get McCarthy to commit and sign a pledge that he would bring an immigration reform bill to the U.S. House floor for a vote this year. He did admit, that he would support an immigration reform bill for 2014.

U.S. Offers $5M Reward For Information Leading To Rafael Caro Quintero's Arrest

Rafael Caro Quintero and Enrique "Kiki" Camarena

The Mexican Supreme Court decided on a vote of 3-1 to overturn an appellate judge decision to free Quintero last August.

By H. Nelson Goodson
November 7, 2013

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico - On Wednesday, the Mexican Supreme Court on a decision of 3-1 overturned an appellate judge decision to free Rafael Caro Quintero, 58, a reputed druglord. Quintero, a former founder of the Guadalajara Cartel walked out a free man from prison last August after a federal court overturned his 40 year prison sentence and conviction for the 1985 murder of DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena in Guadalajara, Jalisco. After serving 28 years in prison, the appellate court found that Quintero should have been prosecuted in a state court and not a federal court. The court's decision and Quintero's released was kept secret until Quintero had been released indicating the three judge panel was bought off.
In an appeal to the Mexico's Supreme Court, prosecutors argued that Quintero was responsible for killing a diplomat from the U.S. who was working in Mexico and a federal conviction was legal. The majority of the Mexican Supreme Court justices agreed and overturned the appellate decision to free Quintero.
Quintero since his released has vanished and his whereabouts are unknown. The Mexican government has issued a warrant for his arrest and the U.S. has placed a $5M reward for information leading to Quintero's arrest.
The U.S. has also indicted Quintero for drug laundering and will most likely seek extradition, if Quintero is taken into custody in Mexico.
Quintero and several other suspects ordered Camarena killed after their $10 billion dollar marijuana and drug manufacturing ranch called the Buffalo was raided and confiscated by Mexican federal authorities. Camarena and his pilot were kidnapped in Guadalajara and then their bodies were discovered in a shallow grave a month later. Both Camarena and his pilot's bodies showed signs of torture before being killed.

No Food, Water Or Medicine For Women Locked Inside Congressman McCarthy's Bakersfield Office

The UFW in Bakersfield is reporting that at least 15 women and some media members were locked inside Congressman McCarthy's office by local police and no food, water or medicine for some of the women who are diabetic can be delivered inside.

By H. Nelson Goodson
November 7, 2013

Bakersfield, CA - On late Wednesday, the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) reported that 15 women who entered into U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy's office in Bakersfield to demand that he allow a vote on an immigration reform bill were locked in the his office. The women and some media members who are covering the indoor rally and sit-in protest have been locked in the office by police with the approval of McCarthy's staff. McCarthy is the majority leader of the GOP members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Police will not allow the women access to water, food and medicine while locked in the office. Some volunteers have attempted to deliver food, water and medicine for three women inside who are diabetics, but police have refuse to allow them to get the items.
The UFW reported, "Rather than meet with his constituents, Rep. McCarthy's staff called the Bakersfield police to lock in more than a dozen of the activists and several members of the press inside McCarthy's office. Police turned away volunteers bringing food and critical medicine to advocates, three of whom are diabetic."
Bakersfield police haven't released a statement concerning their refusal to allow the women to get water or food. Other people attending the rally have staged a vigil outside McCarthy's office.
Congressman McCarthy hasn't released a statement explaining why food and water is being kept from those women waiting to meet with him.
The waiting is expected to last through the night, according to the UFW.

I
'm not a wedge shoe girl but I don't exclude them from my radar either. Last Sunday I was looking to wear something light, between casual and chic and I opted for these white wedges that I bought a while ago.
Sweaters are comfy-cozy-great for weekend days so I created a white graphic look, especially because the weather allowed me to not wear a jacket.
A pinch of color it was the perfect finish and I was good to go for some necessary Sunday shopping!

Women In Bakersfield Initiate National Action To Push For U.S. House Vote On Immigration Reform

Photos courtesy of UFW

Hundreds of women including children took over the Office of Congressman McCarthy to demand that a bipartisan immigration bill be introduced for a vote on the floor of the U.S. House.

By H. Nelson Goodson
November 6, 2013

Bakersfield, CA - On Wednesday, more than 100 women including children went into the Bakersfield Office of U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy (R), the majority House leader to demand that he bring to the floor a bipartisan immigration reform bill for a vote. The women gathered outside and inside McCarthy's office in Bakersfield, according the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) who organized the mobilization. UFW says, it's the start of a three day national movement by women to push for a vote of a pending bipartisan immigration reform bill.
Recently, three GOP members in the House decided to sponsor an immigration bill and they're Jeff Denham, (R-CA),  Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, (R-FL) and David Valadao, (R-CA).
UFW announced in a news release, that Wednesday's action seeks to push for a vote on a bipartisan bill. More than 100 people protested, including immigrant women who bear the brunt of the failures of the current immigration system. The action kicks off three days of women-led coordinated actions in key Republican House member districts across the country. These actions constitute the escalation of women-led action for immigration reform, in which women across the country have been mobilizing for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship and addresses the unique needs of women, children and families, the UFW reported.
In Chicago, nearly 120 immigration reform activists including public elected officials were cited by police in the afternoon for blocking the Loop on Clark Street for about an hour. Other activists protested in front of the Chicago Immigration and Customs Enforcement building. Both rallies on Wednesday were planned to push the House GOP to vote and pass an immigration reform bill.
On November 8, a major push in other cities across the nation will also engage in action to force members of the GOP majority controlled House to address and pass an immigration reform bill before the year ends. Civil disobedience action by women will take place, according to organizers.
Unfortunately, any hope of introducing and passing a just comprehensive immigration reform bill in the U.S. House for the remainder of the year is dead. The U.S. Senate's immigration bill that was passed earlier is destine to expire as the year comes to an end.
In the last days of October, a major push by Republican business owners, law enforcement and corporate CEO's to influence conservative House Republicans to support an immigration reform bill seems to have failed.
The U.S. House 113th second session begins on January 3, 2014, which could include new elected members of the House. It was believed that at least 28 GOP House members would support an immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship for at least 11 million of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Recently, three House Republicans joined Democrats in sponsoring a bill. If an immigration bill would have been introduced and debated earlier, it would have had at least  228 votes, including the 28 Republicans surpassing the 218 votes needed to pass a bill. But House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-OH) and majority leader Congressman McCarthy (R-CA) have failed to bring up a similar version of the Senate immigration reform bill that would have had a bipartisan support. No bill has been introduced in the House nor is it expected to be voted on before the 113th first session ends.
One key initiative that hasn't been adopted yet by the organizers nationally is a 16-day economic shutdown, which would allow Hispanics and supporters for immigration reform to control their $2T spending and buying economic power to influence change.
An immigration reform bill is definitely needed, including another to reshape and reorganize the most known corrupt immigration enforcement agency, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Congress, the Obama administration, U.S. Department of Justice and ICE have failed to hold accountable those agents and supervisors that deliberately violated the rights of undocumented immigrants. Many ICE violation cases have been exposed and documented. Lawsuits have been filed by defendants and ICE have lost many of them for engaging in illegal activities and violating department policies. But ICE continues to denied any illegal activity or rogue agents that act outside of the law.
Another fact is that ICE continues to detain and deport undocumented immigrants in the U.S., which the agency was designed to do. But in recent years, ICE has engaged in illegal activity in many parts of the country. One significant case was the Moises Roger Mory-Lamas case in 2010, where Mory-Lamas was forced by three ICE agents to go to a Peruvian consulate and made him sign an ACT document to be removed from the U.S. Mory-Lamas was in the process of trying to get legal status.
Mory-Lamas accused, Peruvian Consul Beoutis, and three ICE agents identified in the ACT signatures as Juan Mezarina, Oscar Torres and James Laforge of violating his rights, under immigration law and the U.S. Constitution.
A Peruvian citizen has a right to enter a Peruvian Consulate for official purposes, but with U.S. agents as escorts is considered illegal, and they have no diplomatic status to sign such an Act inside the Consulate, considered foreign soil.
ICE agents deported Mory-Lamas to Peru, despite a pending immigration appeal case and a petition for amnesty, including residency and work authorization until 2011.
In November 2010, Mory-Lamas received a letter from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) in his residence in West New York informing him of an interview for November 16, but he was all ready deported on September 9.
Mory-Lamas had fought and challenged his deportation for more than 11 years.
ICE spent more than $400,000 in the Mory-Lamas case alone, including flight passages for two ICE agents to accompanied him to Peru.
ICE isn't suppose to deport anyone while in the process of getting legal status. In the Mory-Lamas case, ICE deported Mory-Lamas, despite any pending case to seek legal status.
ICE deportation data indicates that a majority were deported for non-criminal offenses contradicting the ICE current priorities. ICE's has said, that only those deemed to be a threat to the U.S., gang members, violent and drug related criminals are being deported. ICE has become the most corrupted agency engaging in rogue criminal activity in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its agents are never sanction, discipline, terminated or convicted of violating the Constitutional rights of detainees by coercion, illegal acts, warrant less home invasions including arrests at private properties and U.S. County courts. The U.S. Congress has yet to investigate such gross violations by ICE and to implement laws to hold ICE agents and its supervisors accountable for many widely documented and reported illegal acts by ICE agents.
Recently in Bakersfield, CA, the ICE office based agents have been illegally arresting non-criminal immigrants at the Kern County Court Houses while paying traffic citations, attending court hearings or getting married, according to the ACLU. The ACLU also claims that ICE agents have been arresting suspected undocumented immigrants in Santa Clara, CA County courts without warrants as in Kern County.
In Tucson, Arizona, an Operation Streamline Court managed by ICE gets to convict between 80 to 180 of undocumented immigrants at once. An immigration judge sentences all to 30-130 days in jail at private immigration prisons before they are removed from the U.S. Not1More activists who staged a protest in early October and blocked several immigration buses transporting undocumented immigrants to the Streamline Court say, the immigrants are denied due process, appeals, legal advice by attorneys or family members including the Mexican Consulate.
In 2012, a total of 409,849 were deported including 184,459 non-criminals; in 2011, 391,953 were deported including 203,571 non-criminals and in 2010, 385,100 were deported including 215,444 non-criminals were removed from the U.S. under the Obama administration.

Is Congress finally getting serious about spending and the debt?

Is Congress finally getting serious about spending and the debt?

The Congressional Fiscal 2014 Budget Conference Committee met for the first time last week. It is a bipartisan, bicameral committee that includes all members of the Senate Budget Committee, and the Chairman and Ranking Members on the House side, is about even politically, with 15 Democrats and 14 Republicans, but is heavily weighted towards the Senate, with 22 senators and seven representatives.

The budget reform panel was mandated in the bill that raised the debt ceiling and ended the government shutdown, and has until December 13 to find a budget compromise or face the likelihood of another government shutdown in mid-January when funding for the government runs out.

The group is reportedly focused on finding ways to replace across the board spending cuts, known as sequestration, with more sensible reductions in federal largess.

Representative Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is chair of the joint committee, and in opening remarks said that the debt held by the public has doubled in just the last 5 years and is only getting worse. It’s a drag on the economy, he said. With 10,000 Baby Boomers retiring every day, Medicare and Social Security are going broke.

The debt, he said, hurts economic growth and job creation, and noted the message from the Congressional Budget Office, which warned that if something isn’t done soon, there will be a debt crisis. “We’ve got to get a handle on our debt, and we have got to get a handle on it now,” he stated, and the way he believes we must work our way out of this is through tax reform, including getting rid of carve-outs and kickbacks, and through a growing economy, and not by raising taxes.

The federal budget is a huge mess. In FY2013 the federal government took in revenue of $2.8 trillion, but spent $3.5 trillion, and owes $17 trillion to debt holders.

This compares to a family of four that earns $36,000 annually, but spends $45,000 each year and has accumulated debt totaling $219,000. This family clearly needs to cut down on its spending.

But the federal government cannot do that. At least not if we believe House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.), who said in an interview in September on CNN’s “State of the Union” that “The cupboard is bare. There’s (sic) no more cuts to make. It’s really important that people understand that.”

Ms. Pelosi is apparently unaware that the federal government spent your tax dollars on such important things as exotic dancers, robotic squirrels, studying pig poop, and a reality TV show in India. And she also doesn’t know about the Government Accountability Office estimate of roughly $17 billion of improper Medicare payments each year, or the billions of dollars of mismanagement, corruption, and wasteful spending in federal housing subsidies, and the fraud and abuse in the food stamp program, school lunch, and child care programs, and in Veteran’s Affairs.

Maybe she’s forgotten that we pay people with our tax dollars at the NSA to record terabytes of information about us, and IRS employees to harass Republican/conservative organizations applying for non-profit status, and federal SWAT teams to kick down the doors of people whose student loans are in arrears and besiege a mine operation in Alaska to check for compliance with the Clean Water Act.

And then there are the 31 areas of spending on duplicative federal programs, spelled out in a report by the Government Accountability Office that waste billions annually, such as at least 23 different federal agencies running hundreds of programs to support renewable energy, and the 29 Department of Homeland Security contracts that partly or completely overlapped with research being done by another part of the same department.

Despite these examples of waste, fraud and abuse, and also despite the record $2.8 trillion in revenue the federal treasury collected in FY2013 – which provided President Barack Obama the opportunity to claim credit for a sizeable reduction in the annual budget deficit – Nancy Pelosi thinks that in negotiations about debt reduction “revenue needs to be on the table.”

But, no, Ms. Pelosi. You and your big spending comrades don’t get another dime.

Before the middle class or even the wealthiest Americans are further burdened with additional taxes, the federal government needs to get its act together and start operating efficiently. It must eliminate the billions of dollars in waste, fraud and abuse, and eliminate duplication.

Taxes should be evenly applied and high enough to support only essential government services. And, the most important word in that concept is “essential.”

Congress must get rid of carve-outs and kickbacks, eliminate pork barrel projects, stop the unconstitutional passing of Congressional responsibility to Executive Branch agencies, and restrict legislative activity to necessary and useful laws.

And the federal government must begin to operate with an attitude that demonstrates the obligation every federal worker – from the President of the United States, to Cabinet Secretaries, to Members of Congress, to the lowest paid employee – owes to the people they work for, the taxpayers. Perhaps then each of them will earn through job performance the high status some of them assume they are due “just because” they hold a high elective or appointed position.

Mayville, WI - On Tuesday, John M. Grant, 42, of Tinley Park, Illinois was charged in Dodge County with one felony count of illegal possession of an electronic weapon. Grant is a Bears fan who allegedly used a taser on his wife, Nicole Grant who is a Packer's fan after the Packers lost to the Bears on Monday night.
A Mayville police officer responded at 2:38 a.m. on Tuesday to a call at Dan's King Pin on 31 N. Main Street where a woman identified as Nicole alleged that her husband had tased her three times after the Bears-Packer's game. Nicole showed burn signs of being tased twice in her buttocks and once in her thigh.
According to Nicole, she told the officer that the tasing incident happend outside the Side Lines Tap, 111 S. Main Street after the game. In the complaint, Nicole said that she didn't consent to being tased and filed a no consent form with police.
When police talked to Grant, he initially said, that Nicole had smoked marijuana earlier and that someone else at the bar had tased her when they were passing the taser around. He later admitted that they had both made a bet and who ever lost the bet, one would tase the other who lost the bet.
Police checked Nicole's text messages and video on her cellphone and then determined that she had agreed to be tased, if the Bears won. Nicole's no consent form was voided.
Police searched a semi-truck owned by Grant and found a black electronic device (taser). Police learned that Grant did not have a conceal and carry (CCW) permit for Wisconsin or any other state. He was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of an electronic device. His bail was set at $500 cash. If convicted, Grant is facing six months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
Grant is expected back in court on December 4 for a review hearing and on January 9, 2014 for a preliminary hearing.
Only those who are granted a conceal and carry in the state can carry and have possession of a taser or any state resident of lawful age without a CCW can own and keep a taser at home.
