This teacher was able to wrestle a gun away from one of the thugs after he got shot. Tough guy!
Police say four or five teenagers tried to rob the teacher inside a classroom at the school. The teacher was shot several times in the abdomen and leg.
Police say they found the teacher on the floor in his classroom but he was alert and gave a statement to officers as he was transported to the hospital. Detectives are now looking for the suspects.
Fresno police say the shooting happened in an athletic training classroom.
"The classroom door was open, teacher just doing his work when suddenly four juveniles came to rob him," Lt. Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Department said.
Police say the teacher was able to wrestle away a handgun from one of the suspects after being shot.
"During the struggle, we're presuming that that is when he was injured several times. Right now, it's apparent he was shot two to three times," Doyle said.
The group of teenage boys ran off before police arrived, leaving the handgun behind. Investigators say the boys were also armed with another gun--possibly a long gun or sawed off shotgun. Police say several other teachers heard the shooting and are being interviewed by detectives.
The teacher's name has not been released yet. Police say the man is an athletic trainer and ROP teacher at Edison High School.
Police are still investigating the shooting to see if the teacher knew the suspects or if the shooting could be gang related.
Fresno Unified said Edison High School will be open Friday.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Fresno Police Department.
