Mexico - On Monday, the Facebook (FB) administrators removed a photo taken by Marco A. Cruz depicting the aftermath slaughther of a three member family including a young girl by the Mexican military in 1994. Cruz who worked for Imagenlatina went to Chiapas to cover the uprising of the Zapatista National Liberation Army also known as the Chiapas rebels. The photo of the slain family was taken on January 11, 1994 at the San Cristóbal Cemetery morgue.
The three member family were reported killed in front of the Mexican military outpost in Nuevo Rancho Chiapas. The military attempted to cover the murders.
Also according to an article posted by Proceso dot com, Cruz claims that he also posted other photographs of Zapatistas in his FB account to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Zapatista Army in Chiapas. FB removed the slain family photo and blocked access to his FB account.
Cruz is claiming censorship by FB.
Cruz also posted other photos, including some that showed Zapatista rebels killed in skirmishes with the Mexican military. The bodies of rebels killed were recovered, loaded on helicopters and then taken to the ocean where they were discarded by the military, according to Cruz.
Cruz currently is the editor for Procesofoto and works with the French photo agency VU.
