Milwaukee, WI - On Sunday, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Police reported that three suspects, two 19-year-old and one 17-year-old were taken into custody and are facing charges for theft at the UWM dorms. Around 4:00 a.m., a student called police and reported that he found a handgun in his bed at a residential housing room in the South Tower of Sanburg Hall (dorms), which wasn't his.
When police arrived, they recovered the weapon and found other items that the sudent claimed it wasn't his. Police reviewed surveillance video from the dorm towers and noticed three suspects entering the North Tower.
Police did a lock down at North Tower and went room by room searching for the suspects. They were located on the upper floor and were arrested. The two 19-year-old suspects are UWM students and the 17-year-old is not a student, according to police.
The suspects allegedly went to unlocked dorm rooms and stole items from 20 housing rooms. While students left their doors unlocked and were gone for the weekend. Police will return the stolen items to students.
